Got a lot of the hot side piping done. Still need to plumb the wastegate and run the downpipe. You can see the 5" mandrel bends I'm going to use in the last picture.

Started getting the front end parts mounted up. Basically all it's going to be is a tubular structure that holds the fenders, grille, and bumper. The whole front clip will slide onto pegs sticking out of the body and bolt to the frame in the front. End result will be a quick-release 1-piece front end. The hood is a fiberglass unit that I picked up from Millerluck. Thanks again Larry! It's just setting on there for the picture and will fit a lot better after some trimming.

Drool!
That is so sweet.

I like the indy intake manifold, looks like a good candidate for MPFI on the AMC.

Santa came early and he was driving a FedEx truck. Got a radiator w/fan, trans cooler w/fan, liquid/air intercooler, silicone couplers, etc. The intercooler is going to go inside the dash. Gets it out of the way and the air/water is a lot more efficient than the typical air/air mounted up front.

where do you plan to put the wastegate? Doesnt look like a whole lot of real estate in between the collector and hotside flange. Do you think 1 50mm will be enough?

Good catch. I was going to put the wastegate before the collector. Doesn't matter anymore because I changed my mind and I'm going to redo the hot side again. I don't like the way it looks and I'd like to get it a little further away from the shock. When I redo it the wastegate will be in the spot you are thinking of. From the builds I've seen I think the 50mm will be enough if placed properly. If it's not I can always upgrade. I've got all of next week off of work so I should be able to get a lot done (finally).

Right on. It might not be a bad idea to leave yourself the option of adding another WG. That thing is going to be pushing alot of exhaust. Not 100% sure how you'd incorporate more than 1 WG on a single scroll, but I imagine it wouldnt be setup much different than a twin scroll WG setup. Have you thought of putting 2 smaller ones, 1 on each pipe pre-collector? Boost creep is a mofo.

Very cool project. Id love to see thing come together and pull the rear bumper off.

Here's version 2.0. I like it a lot better, just a lot cleaner overall. Now to redo the exhaust piping again and be done with it.

Also got the intercooler mounted. The first picture is a piece of 3/4" square bar with a slot cut in it mounted on the bottom side of the dash. The tab welded to the intercooler (second picture) slides in the slot and the bottom bracket holds it all up. Two bolts are all that holds it in. All that and still plenty of space for the passenger's feet.

Started thinking about the engine again. I lucked out and found a set of off-the-shelf 2681 alloy pistons for a .060 over ch*vy 400 with a 1.133 comp height and 26.6cc dish. I can offset grind the stock crank to 3.9 stroke and use small journal 6.125 ch*vy rods. As luck would have it, I got a killer deal on a set of big $$ Carrillo rods from a friend. This gives me 429ci and 9:1 compression with .080 head gaskets. O-ringed block, extra head studs, and 4-bolt mains and that's about it. Who says you can't build cheap horsepower with an AMC?

Pistons showed up today, picking up the rods tomorrow.

Also got my muffler (5" in/out) and diff girdle.

Not much progress to report. I've been spending a lot of my free time on some of my other cars getting them ready to sell. After that I'll be working on getting the Wagoneer back on the road, then on to the Cherokee again. I'm not in a rush, this is my dream Jeep and I want to build it right. I've still been collecting parts when I find them. I've become a bit of a 401 hoarder, one for each Jeep and a few spares, lol.

Still nothing new. Working on putting together an engine for the Wagoneer then it's back to work on the Cherokee. Hoping to have the body and paint done by the end of the summer, then work on plumbing/wiring/etc over the winter.
