My new toy...
figured with the big project i have going on it was time for a welder to do the job. after the cost of the welder, shipping and wiring the garage for 220v im in about 630. not to bad considering locally i would have spent that just on the welder. tomorrow ill run out and grab a bottle.

Ditto. Good choice for general welding, but get a spool gun for aluminum, and I highly recommend an autodarkening helmet...

I've already got a helmet. Bought it back when I took my 2 years of tech school for welding. Although I'm thinking ill buy a new one and give my dad the old one. Spool gun would be nice but not a necessity at the moment. I think next on the list is plasma cutter. Found it on eBay. Did a bit of waiting and searching to find a good deal on a new and not refurbished unit. Wish I had the extra cash for the power MIG it has infinite controls instead of tapped like the weld-pak and pro-MIG (which are identical despite a different model number)

You'll like it. I've had my Lincoln 220V weld pac for almost 15 yrs now and it has never given me any problems.

Save that for after the welding, or your welds will look like ca ca.

just a small update. i think they under rate it. not saying buy it and go weld 1/2 inch in a single pass, but it penetrates nice and deep on thicker stuff than it says it will. cut an old frame rail and re-welded as a test for when i shorten the chevy frame, did a 45 degree angle cut, beveled and single pass weld with .025 wire. did everything i could think of to break the weld and couldn't get it to crack. cant tell what that piece of metal was when i was done trying to break it,. very pleased with this machine

this thing works great on thin stuff, put it to the lowest setting and a 1.5 wire speed it'll do sheet metal all day. Even has a handy guide inside the door for different settings for different thicknesses of metal. 535 i think is what it cost to my door for this, if you dont need something as big as 180 amps the smaller 135-140's are decently cheaper. Ive read that the 140 has enough to make a solid bumper if you know how to weld. And i'm considering making a a reproduction honcho style roll bar when mine gets here for measurements. I just want to build so many things now

I've used a couple different sizes of the Lincoln welder, LOVED every one of them. They are great for doing a wide variety of projects.
And yes, it takes a VERY careful hand to stick weld body parts....
