Calling all Golden Hawk Experts

This 1980 Cherokee Golden Hawk is for sale locally and it is tempting me. I am not well versed in my later jeep models, nor am I well versed in the 6 cylinder types. I am wondering what I could expect for running gear and axles - are they 44's or did the 6 cylinders come with less? What tranny/transfers were in these? I can't make out the badge on the back for the QuadraTrac but I do see locking hubs so it's either got a p/t kit or a different t-case.

I haven't gone to see this thing yet so all I have is pictures. My wife will be so proud of me if I bring home another lost puppy

jeep only made the golden hawk for the later half of 1980. it was the replacement for the golden eagle. only cj's and cherokee w/t got it. i am suprised that it has a 258 in it though. one of the more "rare" jeeps, note that rare does not = more valuable....

Most GE's weren't loaded, just had pretty decals and denim seats that usually don't last long.

Just so you aren't surprised, look under the seat covers up front. You'll most likely find foam, not denim.

It's probably a worthwhile buy, as long as it isn't overpriced.

The only way I am bringing this one home is if it goes for a song. I "need" it like I need another hole in my head. 12 cars and two drivers in the household seems to be a little overkill according my better half (and my better senses).

Still, I have found myself dreaming about owning another cherokee lately - had a 76 with 401 out of college - always loved it.

How is the performance on the 6 cylinders? I would imagine they are pretty tourquey. Did they run a lower gear ratio in the 6 cylinder rigs?

I meant less loaded as in 6cyl/manual trans instead of v8/auto
Denim seats? I thought denim was supposed to be tough...

lol what a joke the Levi interior was...

I had a '77 with the 258, I still miss it. The six was great off-road and on flat roads but a pig going uphill on the city streets here in Colorado Springs.
