Adopted another Dauntless Glad
I finally brought home a '68 J3600 I've been pursuing off and on for two years or so. B-350, T-18, D20/D44/D53 w/ Powr-Loc. Runs and drives, but needs a lot of the little things.
The Alaskan Pop-up camper was included and went to a friend. Has a huge stack of leaves (12) on the back for the camper loading.
Damage on the left side of the bed. Right side not rusty in the seams.
Interior trashed, the drivers side window has been stuck down for some time.
Back window partially pushed in, but I have a slider for it anyway.
Lock-o-matics stuck, I'll put my good Cutlas hubs on from the J3600 parts rig.
Needs a brake switch, going to replace the wheel cylinders and some lines and clear the system.
Basically planning on replacing all fluids (exc. coolant looks great!) and inspecting everything, adding the Buick oil pump thrust wear plate, lifters are a bit noisy.
Paid $500.00 The T-18 sealed the deal. Plans are to use it as my Farm/Plow beater truck while I restore my J2600. Since the bed is so beat up I'd like to build a dumping flatbed at some point, must be a way to use a PTO from the T-18 to drive a hyd. ram. I'll be inquiring here...
More pics soon...

sweet project, loving my Buick 350, in fact it has replaced the 74 J10 on the priority list...and I am taking her to ECI this weekend!

Thanks.
Funny story-- the cooling system seems in good shape, holds pressure and good color, so I considered not checking the thermostat and going with the current hoses for now, they looked good. I drove it off the trailer and moved it to it's temporary parking spot near my not-yet-finished shop. Before shutting it off, noticed steam coming out of the Rhino-- opened the hood and the upper hose sprung a leak with a nice arc a foot and a half right onto the air cleaner, looked like one of those 'little boy' fountains with accurately colored fluid--- Looks like I got lucky, could've been on the side of the road in six months with a load of parts and no lunch...

WOW! Great score on an excellent combo.
I've never seen a t-18 behind a Buick 350, only TH400.
Wonder how many were built with a T-18 compared to the TH400?

Yeah, actually there is a place up the road here that builds dump bed systems... they would just need to know the frame width I think...

Bryan-- I'd love to know the break down, too. I looked at a virtual twin of this one about 2-1/2 years ago (and got it stuck in the snow while test driving) same color even, except it had a T15A trans and open rear. Since it was standard equipment I wonder if that was the most popular combo. It was about as rough, but they wanted 1500.00 so I walked.
Wish someone had some production figures by model and options for those years like I've seen for my Buicks. I have found that Jeep sold 38,235 retail vehicles in the calendar year '68 and about 4,000 less the next year. Compare that to the big three...
Elliot-- I haven't even begun looking around my area for new/used dump parts. I'm hoping to put something together myself using a friends '73 Ford 1 Ton dump bed truck for somewhat of a pattern. I used to drive an '80 Ford same at a college summer job 20 years ago, hauling from jobsites to the dump. Loved the unloading part...

Good score, lose the hippy house outback and you're golden.

Don't worry, brother-- It's gone-- gave it away on the way home. It's new life will be 'hunting cabin' in North Idaho. It'll fit right in...

I'll find a little time for some more pics soon, Carl-- I'll get that trim/paint code info, too. Haven't had time to start working on the truck yet, but I've been gathering parts, including wheel cylinders, seals, rad. hoses, rear brake hose, oil pump plate kit, etc. Trying to decide on an add-a-leaf for the saggy front end, too.
Looking forward to pulling the wheels off, going through everything and getting it back on the road, then fixing up the J2600 for looks.

More Pics
OK, here are some camperless pics, including a trim/paint code shot for Carl. When I finish going through it and have the wheels I'll be running on it I'll take some better ones.
OH-- and I've forgotten to mention, it has a fan shroud, as the third pic shows, although the center of the bottom is missing... only one I've got, though...
