66 Wagoneer?

Found a fairly solid 66 Wagoneer - pros? cons?

I believe it has a 27 front 44 rear. Swap out the 27 with a 44?
It has an line 6. Not enough for the trail? What was the stock tranny with the 232?

Other note - I would like to build it up for mild off-roading eventually. I have been seriously looking at the Cherokee Chiefs but they seem a bit scarce in my neck of the woods (Ohio) at the moment.

Thanks for any input!

Stick or auto? I'd put disk brakes in the front if you want to keep your axles. The close knuckle front axle is ok, but I wouldn't get too crazy off road or put larger tires on it.

I really like the older wags and J-trucks. Very simple to work on on. Parts can still be found (they use a lot of parts used by GM and are still produced).

One area they lag is in the axle dept. Closed knuckle fronts and two piece rear. Relatively easy to swap later six lug axle into though. Worth the effort IMO.
