Question about rear leaf springs on '76 J-20 Ambulance

Greetings All,

I'm just beginning the process of doing a shackle flip on the rear of my '76 J-20 Ambulance and have gotten the axle out and the springs off. My right spring pack has 5 leaves and the left has 4. I don't know if this was stock for J-20 trucks, or something the body builder people did when they loaded up the back with ambulance stuff. Does anybody know what was normal for that year? Also, the rear box has long since had all the ambulance stuff removed, and the truck sits about 1" higher on the side with the extra spring. I'm thinking about removing the extra leaf and reassembling. Anyone see any problem with that?

Thanks,

Gary Gable

nope nothing wrong with it...only thing i could think of it that side had more equipment on it so they removed a leaf on the other side to level it out

Thanks for the reply. I took out one leaf to match. I think it's be fine. I'll know later when I do the SOA on the front!

I have a military J20 that I believe to be a 1977 or 78. Asside from the rear portion of the body removed, it seems to be completely original. There are three leaves on each rear pack including the main just like the 8400 GVW civilian models.
