Thanks for the idea. I love yellow/black color combo.

I wasn't feeling up to body work today but I got the old vacuum booster off and test fitted the HB to see what mods would need to be done. I am going to have to fab an adaptor plate for the bolt holes and either shorten the rod or fab a spacer. I will figure out what I am doing with that soon.

Still haven't decided on paint. Going back and forth between yellow, silver and red.

Tried to go out today but didn't get much done due to 100+F weather with GA humidity. Basically got a little of the inside roof rust off. Not much really.

I got a 4 1/2" Hitachi Grinder from Lowes for $44.99

Probably won't be able to work on it for two weeks (going to beach Friday).

Rich still hasn't started on the engine, which was supposed to be done a few days ago. Apparently corporate is at his shop so he can't work on my engine, since it is a side project. They are supposed to leave at the end of this week but I will be going out of town for two weeks at the end of this week. Essentially, I won't have a running Jeep for a while.

Sorry for the lame update,

So, sorry for the lack of updates and progress.

I have been waiting on Rich to get to work on the engine. The plan is to build it Saturday (July 23, 2010) at 4:30 PM. Hopefully I can actually get it done and work on it, but we will see how that goes.

As far as rust goes, I have the rear flares, the interior roof, and the floorpans. After that, I am going to order a headliner kit, paint my seats and dash, truck bed liner the floor, and install it all.

Lots more to do, not lots of time to do it.

Will update tomorrow.

Got a decent amount of work done.

9:00AM - 4:00PM was body work. Removed the rest of the rear bumper, grinded and sanded the right rear flare (sanded to bare metal and grinded high spots and some rust). Preparing the right rear flare for fiberglass body filler hopefully tomorrow. Should be an interesting experience.

4:30PM-6:30PM was engine work. I watched Rich put on the piston rings and put the pistons in the engine. Got 7/8 in today. I cleaned the rocker arms - parts cleaner solution then wire wheel. Also brought the HEI and headers with me. Its all starting to come together now.

Hopefully will get out tomorrow and get the right rear flare done and maybe start on the left. Also do some more engine work hopefully. Thats all for now. Pictures of the engine and before/after of the flare.

Rich installed heads, oil pan, timing cover, intake manifold, valvetrain crap, etc. Then primed the whole deal. Trying to decide on a color for the engine. Working again on Wednesday. Not too much left to do for the engine.

Might get out later and finish up the right rear flare.

Thanks.

Went down to the shop at about 11:00AM and worked until 2:30PM.

Engine is getting close to being finished. Painted the engine red (with a little black to darken it) and painted the valve covers, thermostat housing, engine mount brackets, and water pump black. Installed headers, HEI, water pump, thermostat housing, oil filler tube, valve covers, spark plugs and started to install PS pump and bracket.

Will be getting harmonic balancer tomorrow (rubber on mine was rotting) and will be ordering a remanufactured Edelbrock carb soon.

Should get everything in and running soon.

Ordered reman Edelbrock 9906 600CFM Carburetor, Edelbrock Air Cleaner, and harmonic balancer. Still looking for alternator bracket.

Also Bondo is sending me 9 free cans of One-Step Rust Converter. Sent them some pictures and told them what was going on and they are gonna send nine cans.

Yesterday (July 29), I sanded a section and a half on the interior roof.

Today I finished the sanding on the interior roof and my girlfriend removed the tint from one of the rear windows. To completely finish sanding the interior roof I need to remove the roof supports and sand under them. Then that job is done. After the interior roof, the only major rust work left is the flares, floor pans, and hood. I cannot wait to retire the air sander for a little bit.

My girlfriend dropped the carburetor off today (she helped out a lot today). Rich says the air cleaner (Edelbrock 1002) is too small and that it would restrict airflow with the cam we have. So I am going to use the stock air cleaner with a 14 or 16" filter. Still awaiting an alternator bracket. I have a couple different people with them so trying to figure stuff out.

Thanks for checking it out.

way to go man you are really kickin butt on that rig. Nice of your lady to help out. Your a lucky man.

I feel your pain with the sander and getting tired of rust repair. It gets really old really fast. day after day after day of listening to the sanders and grinders scream.

Your rig is looking great!

Thanks for the comment. They (and that this will be my DD) keep me going.

My girlfriend helped out again today. She removed the tint from the other rear window and the driver side vent window and cleaned all of them.

I unscrewed the roof supports and sanded under them. Then I wiped them down with paint thinner/mineral spirits and sprayed with One-Step Rust Converter. After I did this under the supports and replace the supports, I wiped down the rest of the roof with paint thinner/mineral spirits and sprayed the one step. The interior roof rust removal is officially done. All that is left is a coat of black paint.

Also started sanding the left rear flare. Just started raining so I had to pull it in for a bit.

Picture of roof and flare:

Got a decent bit done today. Grinded and cut the flares then sprayed One-Step on all the rust. After the One-Step dried I did the first filling of fiberglass filler. Will have to get another can and put another coat on. Then lots of sanding and shaping.

Right Flare:

Sanded the driver side rocker panel and some random spots of rust around the door and near the roof. Sprayed with One-Step and then called it a day - 104F is too hot for Jeep work.

Cool. Nice to see someone bringing one back to life that is a bit rusty. They all can't be from Arizona!

Nice work

Sometimes I wish it was from Arizona but all the work will be worth it.

Got in a JC Whitney Deluxe Insulation Kit yesterday ($109.99) - http://www.jcwhitney.com/complete-in...51&filterid=j4. Plan on using it for the roof/headliner, firewall, and hood insulation. If there is any leftover it will go in random places along the panels.

About to go out and do some more minor spots. Will update later.

Update:

Just got back in after 1:45 of work. I got a decent amount done. Sanded some more on the driver side door and I also sanded rust spots on the front right fender and fender flare and the area on the front above the bumper. After sanding, I sprayed with 3 coats of One-Step.

I was looking at that same liner kit from JC Whitney. I'm curious to see how the installation goes and how it turns out. I'm sure it will be a huge improvement over not having it.

I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. I'll take lots of pictures.

Just got back in again (went out at 2:15). Worked on the major rust spots on the front above the bumper. Cut out some of the metal around because it was so damaged by the rust that I tapped it with a screw driver and the screw driver went straight through. Still working on sanding around the areas. Pics later.

In again due to rain and such; got a little more sanding done around those rust spots. Worked on the rear manual window; cleaned up the gears and added some lubricant. Also did the same to the tailgate hinges. I wiped the areas that I sanded with some mineral spirits for a quick clean. Didn't spray anything cause there is still a lot to do in that area.

Before and after of one of the rust spots on the front - gives you a general idea of what I am doing:

Before:

After:

Still have a lot to do around those spots but everything is coming along. Now if only I could get that alternator bracket quicker.....

Speaking of my engine; someone offered $7500 for it! We declined but still, WOW!

So, just got back in from painting the underside of my hood - just a quick rattle can flat black. Took about 30 minutes.

August 7 I did some sanding on the front flares - mainly where they contact the rest of the body - and filled the two front section holes (above) with fiberglass filler. I also sanded some of the passenger's side door and rocker panel. Spent about two hours on that.

No huge progress yet. Hoping to get the engine in within the next week - fingers crossed but probably won't happen.
