off the wall nonfactory engines

I've been looking at Jaguar V12s for a while and realized it would be an easy enough install in an FSJ as both used the TH400s, now I'm wondering of other unusual engines, I'm familiar with small blocks and the big 3 diesels, and a couple Wagoneers carrying Ferarri V12s, what else have you heard of or seen?

Anyone know where to get a BMW S54-to-AMC-TH400 adapter? Would love to see the mighty S54 brought to its knees by a power-sapping 3/4-ton auto tranny and over two tons of fun.

Not sure I'd put a Jag V12 in a Waggy. Nope.

I've seen a Ford 300-I6 in a CJ-7 with complete Ford drivetrain. Pretty rugged truck too. Probably the most practical one I've seen so far is a YJ with the complete drivetrain out of a 2007 Nissan Frontier pickup. I don't know how good the trans and case are, but the 3.5 liter Nissan V6 is an excellent engine. The Jaguar made V-12's are not that good an engine, so I've been told. A guy I worked for had a mid-80's Jag XJS with that 5.0 liter V-12. It was not a durable engine, and parts were REALLY expensive.

If it's out of a Frontier it should be a VQ40DE (a stroked 3.5, 4.0 liters).

The Jerrari used a Ferrari V12 mated to their 5spd mated to a Quadra-Trac. Must have been fun to drive.

I'm in the middle of a Caddy swap. I know, Caddys are in everything. But I'm doing a 454TBI onto mine. Should hear it roar to life in the next couple of days....

And we expect a video of that Jeff. I've only seen one J-10 with a 454 swapped in. Still not sure how they managed to squeeze it into the engine compartment, but it fit.

Its a Cadillac 425 engine, I'm putting TBI off a 454 onto the Caddy engine.

I've got to find someone close with a video cam, my phone dont offer sound.

Well, I've personally been part of a Buick 455, a Caddy 500 and a 4bt Diesel. I have also seen a 440 and a couple of small block chevys.

There used to be a guy on here from either NZ or Oz who had installed a Lexus motor in his J truck.

Did you just happen to have a 425 on hand? If it were me, I'd go 500. I replaced a 472 with a 500 and no one but me will ever know unless they take it apart and do some measuring.

There are identical externally, the weight difference is very minor, and the mpg difference is probably not noticeable. The heads on a 425 have smaller ports and the crank and stroke are different. That's about all.

Yes the engine was free. I figured I could get this all mocked up and later do a 500.
Unless I find a diesel....
