Brow and aerodynamics
I used to joke about the aerodynamics of the brow in J-cabs until I put rain-X in my 63 J300's windshield and drove it in the rain with no wipers. Looking at the direcion of the droplets, you can see the airflow around the windshield. In my '97 Riviera you can see the air gracefully flowing over the windshield. In the J300...Talk about turbulence!! You would think it was put there as an air brake.
Although I would never consider neutering my truck, it makes me wonder how much of a difference in MPG that brow makes. I'm assuming that's the reason Jeep dropped it in the 80's and that's why the Jeep Gods punished AMC a few years later!
Any theories?
PS. By the way, my brick-like J300 gets 10% better mileage than my sleek and aerodynamic Riviera

I'm fairly certain the aerodynamics of these things is poor enough that a brow is barely noticeable!

I'd bet it makes a relatively HUGE difference at ~50+mph.
Browed trucks look awesome though, so just throw in some ultra-low gears and you'll never have to worry about it.

Probably all of about +/- 1 mpg... but in the 80's, they were taking one where they could get one.
I was more worried about headroom when I looked at my 86.... not an issue. I have a broken seat spring, but even when I get it fixed, I still think I might be able to get my cowboy hat on while seated.

This reminds me of them Geico INsurance commercials, everytime I see that sulking crommagnum guy, with his uni-brow, I can't help but think of how Darwin's theory rings true, even on truck evolution.......

I can tell you that on my Cherokee, those little droplets do quite a dance and it's rarely graceful. I think the biggest effect is the vertical nature of the grill and hood - creates a lot of dead airspace at higher speeds. Imagine a brick vs. an egg ... but I'd rather be driving the brick if another driver does something stupid.

That has always been my theory as well.

If you'd like, you can drive around with the tailgate down and pretend that is helping.

I can put mine in neutral and cruise down a 5 mile mountain with 7% + grade close to my house and I won't break 55 MPH. I consider it cruise control
