Backup lights

Okay guys, I am looking for some thoughts/pictures on additional lighting for plowing. The front I have covered but could REALLY use some more candlepower in the rear. Anybody been here before. I have some ideas.....Thanks

LOL, I had a guy who used to plow my drive in Vermont went the cheap way out. He bought two of those halogen work lights, and a power inverter. He fabbed up these wooden platforms that dropped into his bed stake holes and screw'd the bases of the work lights to em, then plugged em in to the inverter when he was plowing. When he got done, he'd pull em out and throw em in the tool box. He was still using them when we moved. I don't know how many bulbs he went through, but I guess it worked for him.

I saw this on a truck once but they had them hidden behind the bumper probably about a foot back pointing down at just the right angle. I'm not sure how much they actually lit up right behind you but they sure lit up the ground where you're backing up. I thought it was a cool idea but maybe not the best as you really wouldn't light up much, the truck was lifted a little though.

Alot of the guys I've seen use lights mounted to the bumper. The problem is that after plowing a for while, they're usually covered with snow and muck, and you have to get out and clean them off. The thought that this guy had was that if he got them up higher, he'd get a better view anyway, and like I said, he was cheap. I do have a solution, but it's painful.

I have a friend that works for an oil well service company. He's out in all weather types and is NOT nice to equipment. That being said, he convinced his company to buy him some of these.

I can't give you his specific model number, but he has two of these on his truck. He has one spot, and one flood, and they are BRIGHT! They have wireless remotes, and can be pointed anywhere. They can also take a beating I guess, cuz he hasn't had to replace any bulbs or anything. His also have magnetic mounts. The down side is they were $500 a piece. I have not researched them much, but they are definitely nice seeing them in action.

If something like this is too much, you could possibly rig up a magnetic mount for some KC Highlights or something. Or permanent mount them, either way, I would keep them up high, rather than down in, on, or near the bumper. That's just my opinion. Good luck

edit, I gave you an incomplete link: http://www.magnalight.com/pc-1708-35...tic--camo.aspx

I bought some cheap clear fog lights from Walmart and mounted them to the rear bumper. Yes they did get covered every once in a while but for $20 they worked good enough. I didn't need to throw the light very far, just wide. (I wasn't doing commercial plowing so speed in reverse wasn't an issue. However I did do a lot of plowing on twisty back roads and driveways.)

I agree with the down low point, as my Dad says the same thing and we both plow with Waggys. I love the remotes, but that's a little pricey. I might try mounting something to the luggage rack, with t temporary clamp....I dunno. I do know that i need more light!!
