J-20 Build

I figured it was time to throw up my build thread on here. Most of it is copied directly off of my thread on CFSJC.com.

My final plans are...
-SOA D60s locked front and rear. The front is currently being build (5:13s, lockrite, highsteer, 35 spline chromo inners and outters) i have the rear end
-The rear is inboarded, gonna go with around 3 inches of spring lift as well
-Preformer intake manifold, undecided on carb selection
-1/4 inch diamond plate bed with fuel cell and full sized spare mount
-40' Iroks
-Took about 9 inches off of the rear end as well, im sure theres more but i cant think of it... ill continue, again this is mostly copy and pasted straight off of CFSJC.com

Here are a few pictures taken before it changed hands, you may have seen these around before.

been working on the jeep as much as possible and taking pictures with my buddies camera here and there. The photos aren't as nice of quality as i would prefer but hey what are ya gonna do? Here we go...

new pans are on the way

Getting the frame level. There will be one more of these up front, except the upright will be a flat A

2x2 3/16 wall

i had to take a picture of our garage, thats a torn down J 20, a motorless neon, and a chief with a broken axel on jack stands. The best part is i was using the chop saw and we wheeled a engine in to the driveway only to look over and see our neighbor was having an upscale party in his front yard... needless to say we got some sideways looks.

i haven't been doing anything on the 20 recently except smoking next to it and talking about it anyone who will listen... So yesterday we went out and picked up a cheap-o torch set from harbor freight for 99 bucks. Now the #3 tanks i got, well, you know, they don't give those things away ha? I dont wanna talk about it.

when i got down to business i ended up cutting like 6 inches off the frame and lost 10 inches if you include the hitch.

Pretty easy way to get a better departure angle if you ask me...

alright well now that the thread is restarted, ive got some interior rust to replace...

the bed frame is done, im waiting on the steel supply place to open back up so they can cut the bed plate for me. Im doing the bed out of 1/4 in. diamond plate the final dimensions will be 48x86 inches. I decided to notch the frame cross members so i could run another piece of 2x2 the long way. Then i re welded it all together. Every piece of my frame behind the cab is now welded to another.

You will notice there are no straight on shots included... what is it you old timers use to say??? Be there or be square... well its there but its not... well you know. Actually the frame is pretty square but it dosent look like it in comparison to the cab.

Ship it

Josh

here is a before and after of the driver side floor. Not my best work but hey its a floor...

a good portion of this fell out the bottom with a little persuasion, i ended up replacing way more than i originally intended

i reshaped the bends leading to the center hump behind the t case shifter from a 2 stage step up to something like a 70 degree so i could fit in the Neon seats. Here it is all primed up

** i later went back and solid welded the floors in**

i finally got the bed, its not bolted down but here it is, i went with 1/4 in. diamond. Its pretty much the most cumbersome thing ive ever dealt with.

moving on the the inboarding
frame cut out

welded up

how the bracket fits against the bumper after i modified it.

other side will be the same way sunday. Have a good weekend

the in-boarding is as done as its gonna be. I welded the rear perches and bolted the fronts on so i could move them in the future. The main goal here was to 1. get it ready to go in storage for the deployment and 2. to set myself up for the future. If we do end up getting out of here sooner rather than later im going to leave it, im not even planning on trying to have it done. When we get back ill make a decision on the spring setup i want to run and if need be i can move the front perches and adjust shackle angle then.

as it sits right now

shackle angle at full sag

ehhhh

** at this point in the build i was still going with a 44 front end and 37' km2s... then i changed the plans to the current ones... i have considerably less money than i use to have but hey... 40s on tons are way sweeter than 37s on a 44... **

got the 3b buckets in and all of the old brackets cut off tonight. I love doing something that is instantly gratifying

I think im gonna go with 6 inch floods in the inside cutouts

did some work over the last few days, nothing crazy.

took about 30 minutes and finished off my welding cart

then wheeled it around to the rear of the jeep and made a fuel cell mount, all i had was 3/16 2x2 around sooo there ya go. Im gonna cap it and paint it here this week.

roughed up and primed the interior, the dash looks really good, im pretty happy about it.

then i relocated the tranny cooler about 2 inches back so i could build a new grille.

andddd made a new grille today

i like how it came out but i cant decide if i love it. A few little things i would change i think but im diggin' it for now. Take care.

Well this brings us up to date as of tonight. Take care.

Josh

You welding everything with a 120 volt welder? How's it working out for you?

ummm its goin haha, when i did those rear spring mounts i preheated them and they welded just fine. I still bolted um up though. I wouldnt think of trying anything thicker than that on that machine.

Very nice progress, thanks for sharing.

An idea on the grill- slit some hose and frame the out side of it.

thanks for the nice words. Originally i was thinking of using some 1/8th inch bar stock as a frame. At this point im just happy to have anything that looks half way complete...
