mechanical door lock -- would JB Weld fix this problem?

I have a 79 Cherokee and the drivers side door lock just "falls" to locked position.

I removed the door panel and what I found is that the "L" shaped bracket was simply hanging from the rod. However, this bracket should be attached to the inside of the door. Looks like the small weld has popped. If I hold it in place everything works.

So it looks like my options are to JB weld the bracket in place or drill through the door and bracket and put it in place that way.

Any other suggestions on how to reinstall that bracket.

Thanks - Bob

Michael Shimniok (on this list and the CFSJA list) produces springs that cure this lock problem. Do a search to find the thread and ordering info. He is the first one to take the time and effort to research and produce these.

Buy from a fellow board member instead of the ripoffs that another "FSJ vendor" now sells after claiming "years of research".

(I'm not talking about BJ's Offroad, BTW.)

LOL, thank you. We originally tried to buy these from Shimniok but he was just too busy which we totally understand. We actually found a place that used to make these a lot of years ago but stopped because there was no market for them so he pulled out his equipment and makes them for us now.

Thanks -- my problem isn't the spring -- it is there and seems to work.

Just the L bracket -- I will see if JB works -- if not, will see if it can be welded back in place.

I will search the posts too...

Thanks -- Bob

It would be less headache to check the sale forum and replace the whole part.
