What is about FSj's?

I started thinking why full size Jeeps. Why not 1/2 ton Chevy trucks or Ford Broncos. For me the reasons are family legacy (my dad and grandpa both had Wagoneers), my first vehicle was an 81 Wagoneer, the style just can't be beat, and I suppose I am a little bit of a non-conformist (ask me what I think of 69 Cameros or 70 Chevelles). So I pose this question, why FSJ's?

Rugged dependability and reliabilty found in the popular smaller jeeps....but larger, more powerful, and more useful.

That's the same reason I loved our old Scout II, which we sold to make room for the Cherk. Why be typical?

The style, the size, the way it drives, the comfort inside. List goes on. It drives like a yacht and has style like no other vehicle. And each vehicle can be made it's own. Ya you can customize a little ricer with body kits and flashy paint but an just fsj looks unique no matter what you do to it. They can be 4x4 offroa. Beasts, beautiful classics, beaters, beach cruisers.

"To each his own" is never more true than with an fsj

and also "beauty is the eye of the beholder"

I wanted an FSJ because at the time I did not have any oil stains in my driveway. Now it looks like a 30 year old mechanics shop floor from the mailbox all the way up to the garage door.

My Grandpa had a 1974 Dodge Ram Charger, then a 1979 Cherokee S 4 door. I hardly remember the Ram Charger so I don't really care for them, but those Cherokees were cool!!

It's simple people...all the Fords, Chevys, and Dodges of 60s and 70s vintage actually RAN for their owners, and thusly were driven into the groud. FSJs on the otherhand, pretty much spend 3/4s of their life sitting broken down, torn down, or just forgotten when gas spikes, so they are en masse, in great shape considering it's pushing 2010. That's why.

I must say, around here, there are only two other Grand Wagoneers that I know of for sure (and my town isn't that small). When you talk to people, and you mention a Grand Wagoneer, more times than not they smile and for just a moment they are taken back to yesteryear. EVERYONE remembers the woodies and when you see one on the road today, it really catches your eye. Blazers and Broncos and such are all over the place. Dime a dozen. But the FSJs, those are true classics in my book!

OK so there's my two bits worth.

I grew up in them. Dad always had a jeep pickup while i was growing up until around where i got my licence, then he gave me his 83 j10 and bought himself a fuel injected dodge dakota. He drove the 83 to 220,000 miles and it ran great when i got it. The most unreliable j-10 he had was one that had a chevy swap in it before i was born.

These trucks drive much better and feel more solid than any dodge, ford, or chevy of its time. Heck, grand wagoneers drive better than some new suvs.

Being sold as the first four wheel drive station wagon, good looks, and a very reliable name, set them apart from anything else. Then given powerful engines and the ability to go offroad with the best of the rest and still have a smooth ride like no other 4x4, set them apart from the rest. In the early 70's when I was a teenager, and lived on Lake Winnebago - a 28 X 10 mile fresh water lake - the ice fishing and winter events where big time events. The guys that hade JEEPS ruled the vehicle mobility. Snow mobiles had there place, but if you had a JEEP, you had it going-on Hankrod

1/2 ton Chebbies don't have TH400s and the transfer case on big Broncos sits 34293208 inches below the frame.

My reason for a GW is that my wife kept hounding me for a vehicle with wood grain paneling. And the FSJ's are the only thing that looks good in wood. It was also cheap. But after having it for about 2 years now I am completely in love with it. It is my daily driver in my 20 mile commute. People think I am crazy (even some family members).

I had a bumper sticker made for it that says "Keep your cash, I love my clunker". Once in a while I will get a thumbs up from ppl passing me.

My jeep is a play jeep only and I picked it not for the dependability, but for its uniqueness. My rig never fails at turning heads whenever it drives by. I always have people come up to me and talk to me about it.

The SJ community is also by far the best.

Fords and chevys are a dime a dozen but these things and their owners are truly awesome

I came to wagoneers because I wanted a car that was pre-smog, 4 wheel drive, and had 4 doors.

Pre-smog and 4 wheel drive was easy. 4 doors were hard to come by so a wagoneer was the best way to go.

I came to like them all after working on mine constantly for 2 years. They are great trucks.
