1978 J10 Project
I'm fairly new to the site and have been reading lots of posts in order to gain ideas for my truck. Decided to start this thread and hopefully keep it going with pictures of the truck as it comes together. I'm hoping to have it back on the road by the end of October.
Definitely more to follow....

The end of last week the plan was to re-gear the rear axle but that wasn't meant to be. For the record the Yukon salesman stressed I get larger bolts for the carrier. We decided to take his word and get the larger bolts and never checked to see if he was correct, (partly our own fault) and drilled the rear carrier out for the larger bolts. Long story short the larger bolts were not correct and I was stuck with a useless carrier and my rear axle not finished.
I think the fix to the problem is to use spacers and salvage the old carrier instead of buying a new carrier. Hopefully by the end of the week the rear axle will be completely back together and I can install my lift on the rear of the truck. Pictures of the rear will hopefully be posted by the end of the weekend.
The following link are pictures taken while re-gearing the rear. I want to post pictures within the post and not use the hyperlinks as much but I need to find a program for my MAC that will resize my pictures.... any fellow MAC users have any ideas on a good program for image resizing?

it looks like you have a good start on it. have you regeared axles before I am just wondering because that is something that I need to do and I don't want to pay someone else to do it. So is it really that hard or is it just time consuming?

Time consuming. You'll also need a good dial indicator, torque wrenches, and a lot of patience. I paid to have mine set up because my friend knew what he was doing and I didn't at the time. I will be doing my own from now on or at least on my own stuff.

It should have been done the same day we started but as I said we ran into the carrier issue. That problem is fixed as of today, Yukon is sending spacers for free so I won't have to buy a new carrier. I'm pretty happy about that.
To answer your question travisrda it is time consuming and a bit challenging. This is my first time re-gearing, I'm lucky I have a good friend that is doing it for me (free of charge) and I'm paying close attention to hopefully give the front axle a shot on my own!!
Spacers will be in on Friday so the rear end should be back together by the beginning of next week, hopefully.

That truck looks very familiar. Did that come from a member on here?

I am not sure if the guy I bought it from is a member on this forum... I'm pretty sure he is... i found it for sale on JeepTruck.com
It looks a lot different from when I bought it I spray bombed it with spray paint to get rid of the paint scheme it had... my plan is to have it professionally painted at a later date.

The shop belongs to a buddy of mine... I don't have the space for the build and he is allowing me to use his shop as well as give me a hand with things.

Yes it indeed was one of Dave's trucks. Very nice guy and very knowledgeable on Jeeps. I'm currently living in the Bethlehem area but the truck is being built at a friends house near Phoenixville.

Reading your signature, are you planning on putting 37s under your truck on stock axles? That's pushing it even if you want to go lightly on them. I can bust shafts front and rear no problem on J20 axles on 35s. I'm also not a big fan of my Quadratrac either for offroading. Also with BJs 6" lift you can fit 35s easy under a J truck and with some trimming I bet 37s could fit easily. I don't know how you feel about hacking the body but it's a suggestion.
