High flow catalytic converter? Flowmaster Super 44?

Hey folks,
Can anyone recommend a high flow catalytic converter they have had good luck with? I have the edelbrock shorty headers and looking to go 3" pipe. Also, anyone out there running the Flowmaster Super 44 muffler? If so let me know what you think of it. Thanks~!

I am running the 44 on our 73 wag... I didn't choose it, it came that way from the PO... he was very proud of that muffler! It's LOUD!

LOUD!

Wanted to make sure you heard me. It sounds like a muscle car at the street drags, and blasting down the highway isn't too bad inside the cabin, mostly a comforting drone, but my girl said she could hear me on the freeway when I was 1/4 mile away and we were both doing 75.

so yeah, sounds cool but very loud. I think we will be changing it out. I would prefer a turbo style muffler.

I run a Delta 50 and like it, although it seemed like it had to "break in". As far as Cats I ran a Flo-Pro on my old YJ and it did pretty good.

We are selling the Magnaflow cats and they are nice and fairly inexpensive. Let me know if you need me to price one out.

Also, I had a single in dual out Delta flow on my Cherokee (no cat) and it was too loud, way to loud, I like it at first but it got old quick.

I have an older big block series 40 single in dual out on my 87, I had the same one on my 5.0 ford and got a friendly warning while getting a speeding ticket, on the J20 I have full tails to the stock location and is pretty quiet in the cab.

I have flow tested several 3" cat converters on our flow bench. The "high flow" cat converter from JC Whitney actually flowed the best although the Magnaflow "high flow" cat was right there with it flow wise and sells for about $100.00 at Summit. The (PFP) high flow cat from JC Whitney is like $140.00.

Dennis

Added the words high flow to eliminate any confusion with other Magnaflow cats.

That sounds great! The Magnaflow mfg. 3" cat I was refering to is in the $100.00 range and is refered to as a "high flow". Summit also sells another 3" Magnaflow cat for $73.00. What is your price on the 3" Magnaflow cat, and what is the part number you are selling if I may ask?

Thanks
Dennis

I want the muscle car sound - i only drive the jeep on nights and weekends so I dont car how loud it is. Last year I replaced the entire stereo, wires, speakers, amp, sub box etc so if i happen to get tired of listening to that beautiful engine noise, I'll just crank up the blues!

I was thinking about the super 40 but the description on the Summitt site made me want the 44. It says the 44 is the loudest and thats the style im going with this time. I guess if its too loud, I can always swap it out.

I'm running a Series 50, dual inlet, single outlet and I think it's too loud inside the cab. My wife can hear me leaving for work 1 mile away. I'm probably going to add a couple of ovals or glass packs in front of the Series 50 with an H-pipe to try to kill off some of the resonance. (It's my daily commuter and it's too loud inside when I'm on the cell phone. Other than that, my stereo drowns it out.)

I have dual 44s on my 57 chevy and love the sound on it. It's a little loud on the inside but the tone outside is nearly perfect with the headers.

I have the SUV Flowmaster on my crewcab chevy...it has a layer of insulation around the muffler to prevent the dreaded "drone"...it works...no drone at all.

With that said, I have 'heard' that most flowmasters really don't flow all that well...but I don't have anything solid to back that up.

I thought we would get some pricing buy now.

Well yesterday TPICherokee said, [quote]We can blow summits price out of the water on Magnaflow items... FYI...[quote]

So, Magnaflow 3" in/out (non CA.) cat from Summit is $73.00.
I only saw one the cat converter price shown on the BJ's website and it says "off road catalytic converter 74-91 Price $135.00". I must have missed something.

Hopefully we will get some more info soon.

I have a built 401 with edelbrock shorty's and a 3" single exhaust with a magnaflow high flow cat and magnaflow muffler on my '89. The exhaust tone just sounds mean at idle and with slow acceleration. It really makes people wonder what is under the hood. Any more than that and it is very loud and can be heard from a long ways away. I have to be careful to go easy while driving through my neighborhood. It is louder than the dual exhaust on my '72 which sets off car alarms every time I drive it through the parking garage at the hospital where I work . On the highway the noise level in the cab is tolerable.

Thanks to all for the input! I am looking for the muscle car sound and will go with the super 44. I just love that flowmaster sound. I am only just beginning the transformation from stock to built and will be sure to take plenty of pics along the way. My son is 3 and a jeep fanatic already so we are going to make our version of a monster truck (his favorite show is Monsterjam). We're going to call it "SHARK ATTACK". Stay tuned....

hmm, still no response to my earlier question??

I would still like to know what BJ's price is on a 3" In/Out Magnaflow cat converter? Summit's price is $73.00.

If your price is better I can send some business your way.

Sorry, I didn't check back sooner...

$60 on 94009 cat converter Magnaflow...

The ones on our website are stock replacements so they are more $$$.
