J10 fuel tank questions

just dropped the tank on my 83 and found that the cause of all my grief is a plugged pickup tube filter.
When I removed the large nut holding the unit in place I noticed a white sealant on the threads. What can I use to reseal the locking nut.
The mental straps and guard is pretty much had it thanks to the Canadian winter salt issues. What or is there a good replacement for straps and guard?

I have had my tank open twice and never used any sealant on the threads. I have replaced the 0-ring both times though and never had a leak. BJ's has the o-ring. As for the strap and skid plate, I don't know where you can get a good one. I used one out of one of by parts trucks to fix mine.
