Expanded metal?

just curious if anyone has used expanded metal for a roof rack or trailer bed. just wondering if it has more wind resistance then a wood floor and if there are any whistling issues? when i carry my extending ladder on my work truck roof rack it whistles on the freeway.

I would think that the floor of a roof rack wouldn't be in the air flow path therefore shouldn't cause any noise.

I have a 4x8 trailer that is expanded metal.
Never heard any whistling.
It does deform a little if you put a lot of weight in a small spot between the supports.
only negative is it is a PITA to clean up for painting.

X2 what Goat said...I've got a 6X10 with a drop ramp - it's hooked behind the Jeep as I type this actually...excellent trailer floor as far as I'm concerned, but a real pain to paint. And the good thing about it is the ratchet straps can hook anywhere...and the bad thing is the ratchet straps DO hook EVERYWHERE....

I have made a couple of trailer with expanded metal flooring and sold to guys with Quad and Bikes. They like them because when there toys get dirty they can just wash them off and the dirt stays at the car wash place. I am now using 14ga flat sheets, and cut them to 12" strip and then turn down 2" on each side to 145deg for the legs and put 3/4" spacing between them and it make a real good floor for a trailer.
