Windrock Pics 6-27-09

GaWag and I went to Windrock this weekend. We had a blast. It was nice to have good weather and good folks to wheel with. I hit Trail 16 and Atomic Ridge on Friday with another group of guys and met up with Steve Saturday for Rail Trail and Upper Rattle Rock.

Damage report was an outer stub and hub from a buddy of mine and I burnt my battery cable in two on Friday. Saturday, the power steering pump blew up and I had to steer a full hydro system with 42s all day on Rail Trail. I also flopped.

Here's the pics I have. Hopefully, Steve will post the others up later. We also have video that I'll work on getting together at some point.

I feel your pain. Dang it sucks, huh? Had to do that in Las Cruces for who knows how many miles, just to get back to camp.

It didn't just give up the ghost. I smashed into a log beside the trail and when I landed it quit working. So I think that's what's wrong. I hope so anyway since I had a spare back at the house.

Anyway, my arms are sore and shoulders too. When we get the vids up you'll see how I was straining on some of the obstacles. I had to keep rocking back and forth to get the wheel to turn. Not the best time for it to crap out but not many can say they've ran that trail under those conditions

I couldn't help but laugh, as I've done the same thing myself. Got into watching what I was filming and lost my footing. First thought afterwards was "hey, I didn't drop the camera....WOOHOO!"

Great picts, looking forward to more vids.

However, how do you steer a full hydro system without a pump?

How do you steer a REGULAR setup without a pump? I was annoyed by my GW on 31s ON ROAD when the pump went out... Offroad it would have been next to impossible and with 42s I can't even imagine how you would steer it.

Also thanks for sharing.. More video please!

Most orbitals have a fail safe valve that will move fluid manually as long as your system is still intact. It's similar to non-power steering in feel, maybe harder to turn. It's not fun but works. My danfoss does this.
