Thinking about sellin the car for Waggy funds..

I have been thinking about this a lot and I might sell my Nova so I can make the jeep the way i want it. The nova has been a fun car, but its time for a new project to get sucked into. Besides, trail riding might be cheaper then going fast at the track .... Maybe..

i say sell it. Its just another chebby. dime a dozen cheap if you build yourself but can make a dime if you sell it to a lazy enthusiast. whatever the others say dont put the SBC in the jeep I think its a disgrace to any car to install an engine that doesent belong.

so sell that thing and build the jeep

That 355 in the nova would probably kill the quadratrac. Its not a low end torque combo either so it wouldnt be fun to drive. The motor would go with the car. But I cant say i havent thought about a 502 in the jeep one day

Build both it's just money! If you have a wife just explain to her if Obama can blow billions of our tax dollars on stupid stuff then you don't see the problem of blowing a few grand on building toys both of you can enjoy.

Sounds like you've had your fun with the Nova, you're kinda bored with it now, you've found another project to totally immerse yourself into, and the available funding is inadequate. Yup. You got the disease, pal. Welcome to JA.
Trailing cheaper than the quarter mile? Dive into the archive and trail stories, see how many things break and what they cost.
I don't think you will miss the Nova.

I hate you!

Seriously, I did my years of drag racing and loved it. It was a lot of fun however a lot more risk for injury than building a custom Jeep (excluding skinned knuckles).

If you're not sure what to do then do nothing until the right choice settles in. I've built many toys over the year that I have deeply regretted selling. Just take some time and weigh out your options as for time and finiacially.

That is one great looking Nova!

Im not a chevy guy,but nice Nova i would keep it unless you get offered really, really good money for it !

"whatever the others say dont put the SBC in the jeep I think its a disgrace to any car to install an engine that doesent belong."

Ok correct me if im wrong, but FSJs use a lot of OTHER manufacturer's stuff Chrysler transmissions Ford Ignitions ,Carbs,Distibutors Buick Engines, GM transmissions....even the mighty 401 is copied from a Buick.

No, it may resemble a Buick but they are not alike.

It's a no-brainer. Sell the Nova and race the Jeep! Looks like a really nice car, I'd have a hard time letting it go. What's it run?

ok it looks Suspiciously like a Buick and seeing as how they used Buick engines at one time... I stand corrected!

It ran a best of 13.76 at 103 mph on the crap street tires I have. The 60 fts were will over 2 seconds lol. It needs some slicks especially since I just changed converters from a 12 inch with 2200 stall rpm to a 9 1/2 inch with 3500 stall rpm. But I haven't ran it since the swap. It needs a bigger trans cooler since the th350 likes to creep up above 190 while cruising. Thats to hot for my taste.

Thanks Guys

I say it'll run high 12s on a sticky tire and that new converter. Have you looked into any of the drag radials? A lot of local guys are running 8s and 9s on them. Honestly I'm not much of a chevy guy but I'd probably hold on to that one. Cool car.

Yeah i was going to go with drag radial instead of cheap street tires but I never got a lot of street miles out of them . They are just to soft for my driving style. I figured another set of rims and slicks for the track. I havent bought any yet because I dont go to the track that much, maybe 2-3 times a year. I might start bracket racing but I just dont have the time yet.

that 401 in that seems to move that heavy monster down the track really good. What type of combo are you running and have you taken any weight out of it?

My combo
4 bolt block .030 over
smog junk heads with the runners and bowls cleaned up
very small dome pistons to give me 9.07:1 compression (runs on 89 octane all day)
Comp cams XE268.
Performer intake
holley 3310 750cfm vac sec.
Hooker junk shorty headers
TH350 with 9.5 converter (traction is just non existent now)
3.08 rear (need to go with a 3.73)

Ive got to take the trans back out because I think i cracked the stock flexplate . I should have known better and put a new one in it while it was apart.

If you DONT have to sell the NOVA....DONT! Out here crap boxes bring $3000 and up. If you get rid of the Nova, you will regret it. Why not have the best of both worlds!?

Nova

I would say hold on to the Nova. You have it and it's paid for besides it's way cool. If you already have an FSJ you can park the Nova while you work on the jeep. These rigs are'nt to awfully expensive to work on it's just their age. You find one thing to fix then another kinda snowballs on ya. But it's fun and it's only money. Hang on to your toys. Before ya know it your married with 2.5 kids and no time or money for such things.

Sounds like you know what you're doing. Not all sorts of fancy high tech stuff but everything matches and it runs good. I've got a friend with a Nova that's run a best of 14.1 @ 100 with a 10.5:1 383 and Dart heads. I bet he'd be bummed if he saw your combo run faster.

Mine's kind of the same way as yours, nothing too fancy just stuff that works.

1977 401 0.030 over
Stock bottom end except 9.5:1 pistons
Stock heads with a little dremel-style cleanup and polishing
Comp Cams 270H
RPM air-gap intake
750 Street HP (mech secondary)
Edelbrock shortys
Th400 (2wd) 10" 3000 stall
4.10 posi rear
275/60/15 radial t/a tires

As far as weight, it's 4020 now vs 4210 when I started. The only weight reduction was ditching the t-case and front axle. I've got 10 lbs of nitrous and some hoosiers for this Friday, should be a good time. Hoping for deep 12s on the small shot.

Good luck and bring it back in one piece . your going to have a ton of torque with that nitrous. Hopefully the Hoosers will take it lol.
