Are the transmission mount bolts missing? (with Photos)

I've been working on my 1979 Jeep Cherokee (Wide Track V8, 2 brl carb).
And i figured i replace the transmisson mount. It has been about 8 years. The truck drives well, so no other reason for the replacement other than i am going camping and checking out the state of things underneath.
I noticed that the 2 bolts that holds the transmission to the transmission mountplate are missing. (i think where there are holes now, there should be bolts, am i right?)
The transmission just sits on top.
The transmission mount is mostly gone.
Also should the transmission mount be all the way to the passenger side like it is now, or should it be fully under neath the trannsmission.
I have 2 factory service manuals 1976 and 1978. Not much help.
No drawings nothing.
Anybody have any pointers how the put the new one back and what goes where?
Maybe some pictures.

Questions:
- Should there be bolts mounting the transmission to the mounting plate?
- If yes , what size and length?
- What is the proper and exact location of the transmission mount,
all the way to the right or underneath the trani?
- Also the mount itself, rubber part toward the ground, metal plate part toward
the transmission?
- what is the best spot to lift the transmission, the transfer case side or
the transmission side?

Thank You.

Yes the bolts are missing and everything looks placed correctly. The mount is to one side and the stud on the other to allow a bit of play.
The trans mount you show is a poly, am I right? There was a thread a while back that suggested that the trans and engine mounts should be of the same type of material. Both rubber or both poly. I dont think it would break anything, it was just the opinion from the masses.
I dont think it would matter where you lift it, but would use a piece of wood between the jack and case.
Good luck.

Thanks.
So everything looks correctly placed,
I'll just put it back the same way.
One bolt on the passenger side going through the mount, the plate and the transmission itself.
The other one just through the plate and the transmission.
Right?

Yes it is a poly, mount.
Reason being,
not wanting to do this too often.

The engine mounts are rubber.
i am planing to replace them also.

Yes i've read about mixing the two.
Not a great idea.

Now i just have to find those bolts.

...

I think I'd put on a pair of nitrile gloves before putting your hands in there

Oh yeah.
I've been using double gloves on each hand.
They break often though.

The 727 I am doing has 7/16's bolts, but I honestly dont remember on the 400. Could be 3/8's. One word of warning, dont over tighten the bolts. It'll break the mounting flange they screw into, AMHIK.

Looks like that undercarraige could use a good steam cleaning.

Don't steam clean it. It took years to put that anti-rust barrier on there.

It looks worse on the photos than actually is.
I have (had) some leaks.
with mud over the years it developed into this protective coating.

I am trying to get rid of most of leaks.
Replaced the oil pan gasket.
I'll replace the transmission gasket next.
i'll see what happens after that.

I was thinking to pressure wash it underneath,
but decided not to.
In the past it always created problems when i did that.
