J10 Maiden Voyage to Work

Got my J10 back from the shop last night where I had a brake work performed and a slight tuneup. (timing and a carb adjustment)
They replaced a small section of brake line, turn the front rotors, installed new pads, adjusted the rear brakes, adjusted the timing and the MC2150.
I'm gonna need a carb, which I already knew that.

I live on the SW side of Fort Wayne, IN and I work Warsaw, IN, about 34 miles one way.
I report to work at 7:30 and I give myself an hour to get there.
Normally take about 45-50 minutes.

My J10 is a very cold natured beast.
It wants to stumble and cough and spit and sputter.

After it warmed up, it seemed to run better, but there is a slight miss.
The best way I can describe as it seem to want to chug along.
I wonder if the carb is running to rich and it drowning the engine?
Anyways...it ran okay.

I am used to my little Geo and it turned all kinds of RPMs to maintain 65...and my J10 reaches 65 and then some without me knowing it.
I had to back out of it as I am not used to the engine and road noise to give me the seat of your pants speed indication.

My J10 does not have a passenger seat and the driver's seat, while a Jeep bucket seat, is not installed correctly.
It feels like I am sitting in a recliner.
I am constantly sitting up to get a good look around.
Out on the open highway, I was able to sit back.
Tonight, I pulled the bench seat outta the J20 in order to go have it reupholstered.

It has new front springs and ride today was not bad.
Firm bit not bouncy or harsh.

I put 18 gallons in the tank this morning.
I drove to work.
This afternoon, I had to make a service call to North Manchester, IN and then I drove home.
Today, I drove 102 miles.
I went back and filled up to see how much fuel it took.
8 gallons.
So, it looks like 12MPG as I suspected.

Small things I liked:
Intermittent Wipers.
WW Squirters that really work!

Small things I did not like:
No tunes. (just sang CW McCall to myself)
Small sports car style mirrors that I can not see out of.
Truck Cap has gotta go!

It's gonna be long and costly summer as I drive this beast everyday while working out the bugs.

Isnt that a great feeling? Yeah it costs a little more but its way worth it!! After couple hours in the office Im on the road for my job. I get to spend few hours each day driving it, I love it! Yesterday was a long one I think I was close to 200 miles! My car gets 25+ mpg but I'll take the trade, waggy gets 11-12. Get the bugs worked out, get some tunes and enjoy!!

The cost of filling up - well more the frequency sucks, but to fun of driving old iron offsets it a lot.
Some days I leave my Jetta parked to drive my CJ or J20 to work just becuase I enjoy it - especially when they run

I drove my J10 yesterday, the waggy today,& the day before yesterday, the rabbit's been sitting!Hey Bryan,do you still need that rim?I saw your post a while ago, just in time as I was about to scrap a WT Chero that had ONE rim like you need on it!So I swapped it out with a rusty junker,& saved it!It's yours if you still need it.

Good on ya Bryan! Sounds like it is coming along for ya man.

We have been driving FSJs to work for 2 months while gritting our teeth with the mechanic that has the Subaru. That is not a bad thing because I like to drive them but it would be less stress if we were driving the FSJs by choice and the Subey was here on standby I tell ya. Not to mention more than twice the gas we have burned the last 2 months...

I like to drive the GW to work now and then, but most days when I walk out and look at it, I drive the Hyundai. That's because it costs me $3.73 more to drive the Jeep. Every time, and that's with gas at $2.15.

At $3 per gallon it costs me $5.18 more per day.

At $3.50 per gallon is costs me $6 more per day.

That's not chump change to me.
