I dont know what year they started, but my 77 J had it and my 78 Cherk had motorcraft.

I have a set up if you need one, including newly rebuilt dizzy.

Hope this helps...

The Prestolite system came out in the '75 model and was replaced by Motorcraft for the '78 model and the '77 model in Canada.

'74 should have only had a Delco points distributor.

Thanks guys I'm looking at another Cherokee and it has the Prestolite dist. in it. The box has been replaced with A long line of shiney black goo running down the fender wall onto the spring pack.
