Carpet Removal

The PO of my Cherokee must have had a interior shop replace the carpet. It is the old style astro type turf that was commonplace in the marine industry back in the 80's. It is a plastic feeling stuff with a rubber back to it. They must have glued it to the jute/Yak fur style carpet padding and then glues that whole mess to the floors because it is extremely tough to get up. I had to remove some of it to get the trans hump cover off and thats when I decided I would have to remove it and replace with an actual carpet kit.
Does anyone know of an easier way to get it to come up? Maybe some type of adhesive remover?

I have had some sucess with pulling and cutting like I was skinning an animal but it is taking forever. I wont even try to take it off the interior side panels, those will get replaced when its all going back together.
