Rear Window Install -- what did you use to seal the window to the lower bracket

Folks:

My lower bracket that the rear window rides in has rusted out and one of the brackets that the arms of the window mechanism rusted and has broken off from the main bracket.

I've got a good used bracket, but I'm curious what type of sealant folks used at the bracket to seal the bracket and help "glue" it to the bottom of the window glass.

Just automotive/marine silicone, the clear stuff ? or ?

A lot of people use silicone to glue them in the frame, it works but gets messy if you ever have to take it out again.

NOOOOOOO to silicone, won't hold tight enough. They make a rubber type tape that is put on the glass and then the channel is beat on. I usually use a windshield urethane adhesive. Clean the glass and the inside of the channel real well, use the black w/shield primer in the can and brush it on both the glass and channel. put the urethane adhesive in the channel and install on the regulator. Slip the glass in the channel and roll all the way up the put tension on everything. Leave alone for 24 to 48 hours depending on temp, the longer the better.

Urethane and primer available at most autobody supply shops or any auto glass shop, or if everything is apart and clean, they would prob only charge you 25-30 to to it.

I used the factory style rubber seal that I got with the new channel, but being the glass was still pretty loose in it I also used some windshield adhesive (in moderation). Just put a think line down the length of the channel, then another line down inside the seal, then squeezed everything together. Let it all setup over the weekend then popped the whole assembly back in the tailgate.

And have fun with those **** clips, they're a PITA. I ended up drilling two holes in the inner panel so I could more easily get at them. That let me use an appropriately sized socket to press them on (be sure to put a block of wood under the backside of the arm if you do this otherwise it will flex and you'll get nowhere fast). The holes were then easily plugged with a couple rubber bulkhead gromets.

mine wasn't sealed. Makes it incrediably easy to work on if you get a wiring issue and need to pull the window out

Dang, that was probably the only thing that I missed when I placed my order from BJs earlier this week. Plus, it is only a $4.95 seal.

Too bad you don't list that with your "tailgate" items in the weatherstrip section for the tailgate window, I didn't even look in the "Body & Exterior parts section.

I just re-glued mine last week. I cleaned the window and chanel very throughly. I then just used a couple tubes of 5-minute epoxy. Seems to be holding up pretty well, the only thing I'm really concered about is the epoxy becoming brittle.

I used some weather strip glue a couple years ago. It just recently let go. So I scraped everything out and cleaned everything real good and filled the chanel with liquid nails. Pressed the window in, let it set for a few hours and put it all back together. Let it set with the window rolled up for a few days. It took this stuff forever to cure.
