Bumpstop question.

Who here has extended their axle bumpstops after installing a lift? I personally never have.
Others?

I have always had to on coil sprung vehicles, otherwise you can very easily over compress the spring.

On leaf sprung vehicles, I normally end up having the shackle being the limiting factor as far as spring compression goes. But I have certainly had to drop them down to keep the tires out of the fender, and to make sure the springs are not over compressed.

I've had them in several locations over the last 5 years or so.
When the D60 went in up front I went with the progressive rate bump stops, at the same time I built new brackets and moved them back a few inches to keep them out of the spring plate/sway bar mount.

I run rear S10 bumpstops on mine and love them. They're a progressive bumpstop and cost $5 a pair at the local junkyard.

I never used them...

Unil I shredded a $400 tire...

They are worth every penny (ones like above $5-$10) and make the ride much better when you like to use the skinny pedal.

I set mine up to act a bit like a swaybar and they're not hard at all. The ride is like night and day compared to before. It handles 200% better. Best $5 and 15 minutes I ever spent.

Hmm

I put the 4" lift on mine to increase suspension lift & travel. I wouldn't put a bigger bumpstop on to limit what I have done to increase it. Why would you do that? I just never thought about this before.

You don't want to invert so it needs to stop the suspension before it goes beyond flat or you'll wreck your new 4" springs. Progressive bumpstops are even better as they start slowing the suspension down before "full bump" and make your truck handle better and smoother. So the question is, why wouldn't you want bumpstops?

I put some Dodge rear bumps on the front of my rig, it kept the ram from hitting my oil pan. Very necessary in my case since the oil pump is right there.
