Has anybody towed a FSJ on a 16' car trailer? If so, was it long enough so you had wiggle room to adjust tongue weight?
Thanks in advance!
Chris
I have hauled all types of FSJ's with a 16' trailer. The long wheel base trucks are a bit of a challenge but I hauled several of them as well.
My trailer had side rails, I had clearance issues with wide track Cherokee and trucks with oversize tires fitting between them. I had to find out in advance what tires the Jeep had so I would bring a set of stock wheels with me when I picked it up.

Thanks for the pic, it does help with visualizing. Other than a little overhang on the back it looks good and I think that could be dealt with by backing on.
D: None of the above. On the rare occasion I've needed to rent a car trailer, U-Haul hasn't wanted to rent me one even though I'm using my Dad's Avalanche 2500. I had to... ahem... fib and tell them I was towing a Probe. So I may get my own trailer later this year or next and avoid that problem. I have a friend who could make use of it as well, and I have other vehicles that may need rides to and from work shops.
Huh, I don't know what's up with my join date but I was at least coming around the forums prior to that since my wife and I were at the 2002 Ouray run which was in August of 2002.
When I bought my 89 I towed on a 14 ft car trailer. Towed fine. But the extra 2 ft of trailer would have been nice. I just crossed my straps side to side. Trailer was 7000lb gvw.
We have an 18' car hauler with 16' 2x8's for sideboards. When we moved the 82 GW it just barely fit with the wheels touching the sides. Uhaul also would not rent us a trailer. So we bought this one.
I'm definitely going to have to check track width before I buy a trailer as I'm starting to think I'll need drive over fenders and a full 8' 6" wide. Or maybe an 8' wide with drive over fenders, gives you an extra 3" wiggle room on each side. Though... That would make it that much narrower for regular cars that can't drive over fenders. Then there's always a deck over. ARGH, decisions!
Curious why U Haul hasn't wanted to rent you guys a trailer?
Only they questioned me was the tow vehicle , they didn't like me towing with my '99 Grand Cherokee which was rated at 6500# , so I picked up with Dads f 250 lol
In their computer it just says 'no' they don't know why. I looked up the weight carrying hitch capacity and it's about half of the 12,000lb the vehicle is rated to tow. So 2,000lb trailer + 5500lb Jeep = overloaded. I've hauled the Jeep with my Dad's truck and it did fine, just Uhaul is very strict.
