new adhesive tape for the moldings

I plan to renew the woodgrain and the moldings next year and would like to reuse the moldings again because I don't like the TGWs or BJs moldings so much.

During my last stay in the U.S. I found 3M double adhesive tape
(for example 3M VHB 4905 tape). But while the moldings are 1,5" (38mm)the 3M tapes I found in automotive shops were too narrow
    In the Internet I found 0,5" 1''... and 10mm, 15mm, 20mm, 30mm, 48mm.

Have you found and exactly fitting tape, or do you use 2 narrow tape next stripes parallel to each other ... (I think this is, what TGW is doing) ?

    What have you chosen?

    Have a great 2017!

    adhesive tape

I think I am going to test both ways

    - two parallel 3M tape stripes
    - one wider tape stripe, where I will carefully cut the overlap with a carpet cutter or scalpel (without cutting the molding)

I shouldn't have too many worries before I even tried it..... :-)

yes, two strips to completely cover the backside
and yes 3M is the only brand i would use on that

      in my opinion
even if you ran two strips of 3M tape along the
edges and had a void in the middle

      it would not matter
      that stuff is super strong

      applied properly to clean surfaces
it would take a mack truck to tear it off.

          I second this opinion.

Except 40lb test line and a hair dryer makes short work of it.

Yeah strip it on the outside with a void in the middle can cut cost down by half I'm sure at least. It ain't cheap.

            Absolutely

3M& only 3M parallel tape is the solution you'll be fine. Forget all the other junk.

If you can't make it better why waste your time. No use repeating the orignal mistakes. I'm to old to push it that's why.

I had a need on the XJ for near-zero-height adhesive. This worked great:
