    I feel like an idiot.

How long have I owned this jeep now? About a month before I joined the forum here?

Turns out I have a limited slip in the back... didn't know it until I cleared the driveway with some fresh ruts in the slush.

    ...it explains so much!

Don't feel too bad. A lot of people don't know what limited slip means. "Is that traction control?"

lol... I feel so dumb cause I really oughta know what it feels like. Not to mention, it explains why I've enjoyed 2wd so much in this thing. Why I never got stuck in those mud holes two summers past, why I haven't gotten buried in the sand out here, why I never really felt the overwhelming need to go to 4-by...

Why when I'm feeling ornery I can never seem to break that rearend free, even in a turn.

And why winter driving this year has been so friggen weird... I've been driving as if I had an open diff, and now I know why the jeep's butt wiggles when it slips!

          YOU ARE NOT AN IDIOT!!!

I had no idea my 88 burb had a POS GovLock because it WOULDN'T leave two ruts when I skinny pedaled it in the gravel. until it exploded, shot a rod through my diff cover (on a paved road, turning right under normal conditions) and puked all my diff fluid, ran the gears dry, and cost me $800 in parts from Randy's to repair the damage.

Until it costs you $$$, you are not an idiot. I still believe that idiocy should carry a fine, because that way you're more inclined to learn.

Now I'm sporting a Yukon Dura Grip and new USA Standard Gears, and I'm a little bit smarter for it, haha! I popped the cover on my wifes 88 burb (yes, matching burbs, not as cool as matching Wags, but you can't beat the cost of ownership on an old burb) to discover she had the same GovLock, so I pulled the interupter dog and shaft to avoid another $800 lesson.

Just to keep my post in this thread relevant, the best way to discover that you have a limited slip is to pop the cover, but fortunately I don't believe any FSJs came with an Eaton GovLock, so even if you don't pop the cover, an exploding diff still shouldn't be a concern....

Isn't that how a locker works? Pop the diff cover off and flip the switch?

I could have been worse...if you had bought a L/S unit and you found out when you pulled the cover off to install it.
