    Blasphemy? Icelandoffroad flares

Ok so while reading an article on the instal of the icelandoffroad fiberglass fender flares on an XJ I started to wonder about installing a set on a FSJ. Now before I get slapped silly for considering hacking up my quarter panels to make this fit here me out.

I dont want to lift my Chief that much but would still like to run a much larger tire. The icelandoffroad claims you can run 35" tires with 4" lift so it has me wondering if the same will apply to the FSJ.

If ANYONE has tried this post some pictures and give me some feedback please.

...now that sounds intriguing. That'd be practically baja style open wells, to stuff all that in there on a FSJ.

Glad to hear that Im not the only one that is intrigued by the idea lost1. I have sent an email out to icelandoffroad asking the same thing so will let you know what they have to say.

If I do decide to do this I will take plenty of pictures and post them.

Halfway down the page is a Icelandic Wagoneer on 44's with minimal lift.
I don't think it's using the actual "Icelandoffroad" flares, but it still has big meats stuffed under there...

Those look like factory style flares to me.

look like factory to me too.
I like the way the iceland ones are and if they work their they should work in my cold area but i do not see many trees that they would be hitting on trails like i would have to bump and rub off of..
I just put 33" bfg's on the j10 no lift and saggy front springs... fit ok wont have alot of flex wial turning but I have a 4/5" lift to go in soon. I would rather go 2 or 3" lift and cut the fenders or install a nice flare to make more room.... I just love the factory look and do not want to losse that look by cutting fenders..
JEEP Why did they make so many??? I just don't have the time to buy them all...LOL

I think the only blasphemin' going on is the thought that you might be cutting up good factory flairs, and that thought assumes they are "good". That would be a shame as good flares are so hard to come by.

I've got a 4" BDS lift on my WT Cherokee with 33's, and I'm sure I could fit 35's. If I had any fitment issues, I'm sure that toying with the backspacing and bumpstops would handle it.

My brother cut his front flares clean off, cut out the wheel well to clear his 44"-ers, and riveted the flares back on. It looked great and worked with his custom Alcan springs. I don't know how much lift the springs gave him, tho'.

Thanks for the response gang. That Iceland trek GW has HUGE meat tucked under those fenders - way more than I intend to run - but impressive. I love that to the untrained eye it might appear to be factory.

I am also talking to the gang at Alcan to set me up with a set of springs. Figured that was the best way to offset the weight of the Cummins 6bt. As you can see I dont plan on keeping the Chief stock so when I started looking at the condition of the rear flares, the PO had done ALOT of fiberglass work to try to cover up the rust, the icelandoffroad flares tweeked my interest.

Still waiting to hear from the iceland crew but will keep you informed.

actually, the Iceland flares look a bit wider but still the stock shape

These aren't iceland flares but there are some cool rigs in Iceland banging around in the snow

I just gotta say I -love- some of the rigs I see built up to survive in Iceland. Seems they have aesthetics and brute force down to a science over there.
