    AMC 401 Engine Refurb

Anybody have a recommendation for a shop here in Missouri to do a fresh-up of an AMC 401, once I pull it?

I am planning to pull the AMC 401 out of an old J20 of mine and swap it into my 1979 Cherokee Chief.

Don't know much about the engine, other than it does turn over. The previous owner said that it ran fine, but he was having carb issues. He used this as a reason for purchasing a J10 with a 401. He stripped a few parts off of the J20 401, like the thermostat housing and the oil cap. So these areas have been uncovered for an unknown amount of time. This is why I thought I should have the engine checked before I install it.

Any recommendations for a reputable shop that has experience with AMC V8s would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

      Engine Help

      Mac,

Thanks for the link! I will give them a call.

I apologize for not thinking of asking you first, with your AMC background.

By the way, have you swapped the hood on your J10 yet?

          Hood Swap

          Mac,

Do you want me to take the old hood off your hands, or are going to keep it?
