  • New to the full size Jeeps

I came across this site while trying to find some parts for a Jeep J20, and it appears there are some fans of the full sizes here. I am going to be getting within the next couple weeks. I am new to the full size Jeeps, but have been around the CJ's a bit, but the TJ Wrangler more. I have been trying to find replacement parts, but I am having some troubles. Is there anywhere that I can find OEM replacement parts, or comething comparable? I will need things like the tail light lenses, and the drivers door latch. Do the parts from the Cherokees swap over? Any direction would be helpful.

I am also curios about something--it has the 360 in it, and in troubleshooting an issue with the truck not staying running, they added an electric fuel pump(don't know why). This has to be turned on manually, and I am not fond of that. Would it be smarter to just get rid of that and go back to the mechanical pump?

here are the particulars about the truck, as it sits.

    1977 JEEP J20 3/4 ton pick-up
    44740 miles
8400# GVW option Camper Special package
    4 speed standard transmission
    360 CID engine
    2 barrel carburator
    axel ratio 3.73/1
    free wheeling hubs (lock-out)
    rear trac-lok differential
    power steering
    power disc brakes
    fuel tank skid plate
    heavy duty springs, front
    cigar lighter
    camper package
    950 x 16.5 extra grip tires 856
    front wheel hubs
    plow lights
Trail.Blazer 20 gallon extra gas tank
WARN winch (electric) (2 way motor)
    8000 lbs.
    cap

    Thanks for the help.

Sounds like a nice J-truck you got there. I can't help you with your fuel pump question but it's nice to have you aboard. Welcome form Winder Georgia.

Oh, and this would come sooner or later...

You can teach what you know but you can only reproduce what you are.

It makes sense if you don't think about it.

              Welcome from Ohio!

Pick-n-pulls are going to be your biggest friend for things like tail lights and stuff. Be sure to check the sale section here, or even post up a wanted thread.

BJs is great for some things like door seals, rear slider window, and a bunch of other stuff. Z&M has a ton of stuff too but I've not dealt with them yet.

And yup. We're going to need pics.

Welcome from NY! What are the characteristics of the non-running problem? Sometimes issues with the fuel delivery system result in an electric pump being installed as a fix. It may very well work, though I'm not terribly fond of it, but there's nothing wrong with leaving it if it doesn't leak or anything, might come in handy as a backup one day. I would make sure your mechanical fuel pump is in good shape and that the fuel lines are not rotted or kinked, and that the steel line running from the fuel pump is not lying directly on top of the intake manifold, where it and the fuel filter get rather hot and may cause the fuel to start boiling (vapor lock).

FINALLY another J-truck! Getting nervous with all these Wags around here.

I would run the electric fuel pump off the ignition so it turns on/off when the key is turned.
