    parking brake switch/dome light question

I rarely use my parking brake. Last night after driving I stepped on the parking brake and then released it. After releasing it, my dome light stayed on. I finally found the culprit was a switch on the parking brake near the floor. It seems the switch is activated when the brake is pressed. After fiddling with it, the dome light went out, though I couldn't recreate the problem. Anyone know what that switch on the parking brake is for?

I'll take a picture if needed.

the switch is for the brake warning switch on the dash, as far as the dome light issue, if you have the under dash lights that come on with the dame lamp i would look for the wire to the driver's side one pinched in the e-brake lever.

hmmm...no pinched wire that I could find, but somethings got be crossed 'cause that switch somehow toggled the dome and under-dash lights. Its certainly never lit a warning light on my dash. I'd pay big bucks to have an expert clean up the wiring mess under there. It looks like spaghetti. thanks...I'll keep looking.

It sounds like someone at one time hooked your under dash courtesy lights into your parking brake switch. Does your dome light and cortesy lights come on when opening the door? If not, I bet that's what happened.
