I agree with Blazin93. My 2100 runs lean on steep declines and floods on steep inclines and it is tuned perfectly (I'm a perfectionist) . i have heard that the 4350 is even worse at this.

Before I rebuilt mine, it would randomly just stall when driving. I am getting fuel, spark, and had it tuned by a friend of mine who is a super mechanic. Kept stalling. Rebuilt it. Keeps stalling...I have to pour gas in through the vent on the side just to crank it. Thank God when it finally just died tonight with the wife in the car I was only a half mile from home. Had to run to the house, grab the truck and pour in gas just to get her home. I think I'm gonna have Jake put on a 2bbl instead of the 4bbl. I do like my autolite 2100 1.23 on the truck. Doesn't like hot starts too much, but it always fires and always gets me where I need to go.

I have the 2100 hard hot start issues also. It boils the gas in the float bowl. There is not much you can do about it. I have the thickest spacers I could get under the carb and it only delayed how long it took it to boil, not prevent it. The simple fact is everything under that hood gets hot enough to boil the new E10 crap gasoline.

i don't know why you want a holley, those piece of junk carbs don't stay tuned overnight. i spent more time dialing that in than i care to admit, only to have it run like garbage the next day.

4350 is ok when it's not just plain shot. they are over 30 years old now,and likely have been carelessly dug into a couple times.

i won't trade you for one of my holleys though.......

The only carb issues Ive ever had were with the Edelbrock 1406 I put on my old Wagoneer to replace the Motorcraft 4350. The 4350 worked GREAT until I snapped a mounting ear off it. After the Edelbrock I got one of Ristow's Holley 4160s and never had to touch it. I've got a Ristow 4160 on my Cherokee now...tuned to perfection and have never had to touch it once in the 3 years its been on there.

No personal experience with these ... but I hear that the tops warp. Check your top on a flat surface like a piece of plate glass. If it's warped, the top won't seal and you'll have difficulty making it run right.

I believe the solution to a warped top is to lap it till it's flat.

Old carburetors also leak around the throttle pivot in the body due to wear. This makes the mixture variable and tuning unstable. A carb shop can ream and bush the carb body, or ream the body and fit a larger diameter throttle shaft.
