    J20 outers on J10 axle?

    So, I have a 79 J20 frontend psngr drop.

I am changing things around and need a D44 drvr drop, and I have several, but all are 6 lug.

Can I just swap everything from the ball joints out so that I convert one of my 6 lug D44's to an 8 lug? Are the (internal ) axles the same from the HD D44 of the J20 to the J10? My understanding is that the main difference between the the two is thicker tubes on the J20.

Thanks for your experienced responses in advance!

I am not totally up to speed on this but research I have done says yes to your question. You do not have to go all the way to the ball joints though. Swap from the spindle out as I understand it.

Yes, it all fits. I put J20 axles under my J10 but wanted to keep the J10 knuckles because they were in much better shape. The only things that are different are the caliper plate and the diameter of the rotor. However, keep those two larger (J20) pieces together and everything fits.

        Thanks

Wow, so from the spindle out? That's great! I had a feeling it was something along those lines but that is even better than I expected!

        Have a great weekend,

I am kicking around the idea of putting a D60 (narrowed to stock width) in the GW in order to accomplish 2 things. 1st) to make the truck more of a hauler (boat) 2nd) to run H2 - 8 lug wheels I have a BJ's 2" spring lift on order that will be going in no matter what I decide to do about the D60. Also plan on installing
