    4 Door Cherokees?

Ok so I just got done reading Cherks vs Wags and I'm just wanting more info on the '82 Cherokee 4 door I just bought. So most of the Cherokees I see and see on the internet are predominately 2 doors and more specifically WT, and I can't seem to find much info on my 4 door Laredo NT and would just like to know more general info. Eventually it may get modified into something way different from what it once was but as for now it's a fairly stock '82 Cherokee 4 door (I say fairly stock because I'm obviously not the only owner and won't know what all may have been done in it's lifetime) and I just want to know more about what exactly I have, Thanks for Y'alls help!

Basically, you're 4-door Cherokee is a optioned-down Grand Wagoneer. The Wagoneer, iirc was no longer being made; So the 4-door Cherokee was basically that.

They're hard to find, especially in the last couple (literally) years of the body style, from what I can remember reading. The "Cherokee Chiefs" and all are common(as far as FSJ Cherokees go), but Cherokee 4 door narrow-tracks are hard to find; So, good find

Suzq044 well it was a $500 craigslist find, so my question is since it was one of the last of it's kind does that really make it all that more valuable? Liek is it worth trying to restore or is that mainly the Grand Wagoneers that are more sought after for that? Because I bought it with the intention of making it an off road rock crawler/muddin/trial vehicle.

For the most part the Cherokees were the semi-stripper versions of the Wags. Think of the Cherk as a Thunderbird/Cougar and the Wag as the Lincoln MK8. But you could dress out a cherk to pretty much full dress status, except for the woodgrain.

Dunno about 'valuable' it depends on where you are. And as stated, you can pretty much take everything out of a Grand Wagoneer and put it on your Cherokee. I'm not sure on the reasoning for the woodgrain not working? Hell, I have a 2-door Laredo, and have Grand Waggy seats in it.

the 4 door fsj cherokee was made 1977-83. jeep was making the wagoneer a luxury vehicle to get more $ so amc made a stripped down version and put the cherokee name on it. no one except jeep at that time made a 4 door suv and a lot of people viewed the wagoneer as an old person vehicle so it made sense for amc to this.

a 4 door cherokee laredo would have been one step below a wagoneer.

Basically, you're 4-door Cherokee is a optioned-down Grand Wagoneer. The Wagoneer, iirc was no longer being made; So the 4-door Cherokee was basically that.
the wagoneer became the grand wagoneer in 1984. the fsj cherokee went bye-bye in 1983. the xj wagoneer limited was the drop down model to the grand wagoneer.

Four door cherokees are more uncommon than wagoneers, but i wouldnt call them rare. I drove one for a few years and see them fairly often. I like them better than wagoneers though....

Well since the "Grand Wagoneer" got the 1983 4-door Cherokee body tub when released in 1984 (not the Wagoneer tub), think of your truck as being a early Grand Wagoneer.
"Rare" or uncommon does not mean valuable, it just means certain parts are harder to find and cost more.

Your's has the early tail lights, his his 82 would have the "Grand Waggy" light lenes. (Other than that my old and gone 83 Cherokee had more "luxury" do-dads than the my old 88 Grand Waggy Foresty rig)

Cherokees after '81 and GW's had lenses to match the contour of the body and had separate turn/hazard lights at the top.

Cherokees always had vertical tail lights. Waggys went to the vertical lights in '84.
