Who is making long roof racks (Overlanding)

    Hi Guys,

I know at one point someone was making long racks and selling them here... Probably a few years ago.

Is anyone still making a quality HD roof rack for the Wag/Cherokee?

... Even better would be a design that could integrate Thule (or whoever) bike or cargo carriers (snail shell) with the normal light bar, farm jack, etc.

I may have just pushed my requirements into my own welding project...

    Thanks!!!

The only roof rack I can recall seeing here was the "Tad rack". Not sure if it is available any longer, though I believe dimensional drawings are.

Get some gutter mounts and fab your own. Then you get what you want, and satisfaction of knowing it is unique.

That is the fun/pain of moding a FSJ. Most mods will require some kind of fab work to get what you want.

Not near as much truly bolt on stuff available as a Wangler or baby Cherokee.

But then thats what I like about our rigs, less cookie cutter, more home built.
modified flares, removable top, OBA w/200psi tank,
    LQ4, 4L80e,NWF doubler w/upside down 203
    SOA w/ D44s F+R for now
    H1 wheels+tires (cut), hydroboost brakes
    custom shackle flip
    W/F150 springs

Yeah, use google and search "tad rack site:ifsja.org". You'll find all the specs, parts list, and drawings. I had one I sold about a year ago and a bunch of folks wanted to buy it because it was a super solid, well built, great fitting roof rack....that is no longer made by Tad (eerr.... his students). Tad still checks in every once in a while, too so you might be able to hit him up for more info in the "Members List" at the top.

That's the only roof rack I have ever seen that was designed specifically for FSJs. I have only been in the community for about 2 years so there may be others but I haven't seen any.

Roger that! My memory faded, but yes the Tad rack!

Also I found that BJ's now has a Big Bertha aluminum rack.

Looks like the BJs rack may be the Surco Safari Rack. Which is good as there are many accessories (like bike mounts) available.

Go to the FSJNetwork. Tad is over there, and so is RSTEP.
They both fabricate racks, bumpers, shackles, tire carriers, grab handles, rock sliders.
That is where BJs gets some of their stuff from.
(Ristow)fram!....that deserves a ratchet upside the head.

Definitely hit up RSTEP on fsjnetwork. He has some good looking racks and can do full length racks. His prices are super reasonable also. I have a few parts from him and love them.

              Excellent will do!

On a lighter note: I am amazed the FSJ has two active forums. Seems like they could consolidate... Or bad blood years ago?

I still check in both sites. I use Tads interior mounts with the racks I build. if you go for a long rack it does not match all the stock locations , but you can order them from Tad.

                  Roger that.

I am definitely looking to go full length and using the rain gutter as the mount surface. I have used the rain gutter style racks before on other vehicles and they worked perfectly.

                  Thanks!
