    And So it Begins....'78 J20

THE LAST POST will have a link to all photos, post #64

I bought this truck some 5-6 years ago with the intent of a resto mod......but life and several other Jeeps and also some boats ....coupled with retirement and moving to the retirement lake home,.........well you get the idea.
SO....here we go...I sold Gertrude the Grand last month and now I have room in the garage for a project....This is actually my first FullSize teardown and repair/restore.......the CJ-7 was a 7 year project that I built from scratch with all used parts that I polished up and re used.
I'll have lots of questions going forward.

....It's nice to have a great partner too!

          And a strong one, evidently!

When you want to show photos, do exactly what you are doing, but hit the little yellow square window with the mountain rather than the planet Earth icon. The planet Earth with the chain link creates text links, but the mountain picture puts the image itself in your post.

High quality junk here: intro thread and slow build thread

Did you know? Willys is just Willis spelled differently, but pronounced the same. Neither Willy nor his apostrophe are involved.

What have you guys done to replace the(fwd) rear leafspring hanger boxes?
I am wondering if there is a suitable hanger already out there or must I fab a new one myself?

                OK then...here we go....pulled the driveline today (complete).....anyone need a running 360?....we are going to a 401/turbo 400/Quadra trac and the stock 373 gears.....Hydroboost brakes, A/C , power windows/locks

Any suggestions on a gas tank?...I think I remember someone saying that a full size Bronco, 18 gal tank would work. I still hope to carry a spare tire underneath....maybe not full size, but a spare none the less.

If anyone has 2 door Cherokee front seats.....I would be interested,.... I need the hinged seat back now that I am going to extend the cab 12"

Here is the thread of his engine build..

http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=179354 Harry brought a pile of 401 parts to me with the task of making a running engine out of it. The block appears to have been Honed but has sat around and rusted up. (http://s625.photobucket.com/user/SC397/media/h4012_zpsrrhbdgq6.png.html) (http://s625.photobucket

I just sold that 360 to Jeepers 48......he's putting it in his Willis Pickup....

The J20 is Totally stripped down and all over the garage now....

BTW, the springs I "found" in a stash pile turned out to be HellCreek 3" lifts......perfect! Now, who has a drop Pitman arm?

Link to some developements in the build....mostly the spring hangers and more stripping down the truck to bare bones...
The axle in the fotos is from a CJ just FYI....

Spring hanger boxes formed up today......still a bit of fitting to do prior to welding them in.
Made of 7 gauge.....should out last the originals...

I forgot to mention....this is an 8' box truck.....I'll be replacing with a 7' box.
The space that opens op behind the cab will be a 12' extension of the cab.
Plans call for a fixed window on each side,.... nothing special other than storage behind the seats.
