    Dashboard removal

Can the 7 allen head bolts that hold the dash below the windshield be removed w/o taking off the glass?

Those bolts were staring at me while my chero sat windshieldless for 3 weeks at the body shop and I was tempted to remove them for my future rollcage but didn't know if the dash would stay put without these as the cage is about a year away.

Too late now anyway as the glass is going back as I type.

Everyone that has mentioned removing a dash said they had to remove the windshield first.

I have seen a posting or two that did it with the glass in place..

I myself would not want to be there.....

With the age of these trucks I beleve it would be a lot easier to remove the windshield than to take a chance of busting the dash and trying to find a good replacement. Of course, it all depends on what you intend to use the truck for.

My plans are to build a SCORE type cage, cut the dashboard up and just mount the 'facade' to the cage so it would look intentionally non-stock if you will.

I've read that the windshield needs to be removed too so I was tempted to do it while it was off but as I mentioned the cage build is about a year away and plans do tend to change so I left them in place.

And I'm one of the two that did this with the w/s in place. Never, ever ever again.

I have done it on a parts rig. Mine was an unpadded metal dash, so I had some room. And my allen driver still broke the glass. NEVER, EVER, again.

I removed another dash yesterday from a windshield-less Wagoneer and I can't imagine removing one with the windshield in place.

In fact, I used a sawzall to remove the A pillars and doors before the dash harvesting and I highly recommend that.

Well, based on the collective experience I'm guessing it's worth the $50 for removal and installation then.
