    Green 1974 Jeep J10... 15,106 Original Miles...

    Hello!

I am very glad that I came across these forums. I have been stuck on here for hours reading through and looking at posts. There are some beautiful machines here! I am going to tell you a bit about what I have and attach some pictures. I recently inherited my great-grandfathers 1974 Jeep j10. He bought it new in September of 1974 to go back and forth to the dump for about 20 years. The dump was literally an 1/8 mile down the street, haha. It has 15,106 original, documented miles on it and its been in the family since new. (Yes, Fifteen-Thousand) I have the original sale receipt and 1974 jeep brochure, along with every service ever performed. Then my grandfather inherited it when my great-grandfather passed and put it in his garage until recently. It now resides in my third bay. Any-who, I am sort of looking for your opinions. I think I need to keep this as original as possible. There is no frame rot or rust, only a bit of surface rust on the fender flares. No rips inside just a bit dirty. The wheels are original and I am going to send them out for refinishing along with the bumpers because the white paint has flaked and created surface rust. I have never owned a Jeep, let alone a classic vehicle. Are there do's and don'ts with these vehicles? Where do you find parts, etc? I am a car/truck enthusiast with a lift in my garage, so I'm not really looking for any basic car care tips, although there may be some basic things I need to know about the J10!! Any input regarding how to care for and whatnot would greatly be appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this!!

Also, I have not cleaned it yet! I am waiting until the sun comes out to spend an afternoon cleaning it up!

Very very nice. The grandfather connection is even better. Welcome to the forum. Keep it stock and maintained and 'your' grandkids will be driving it.

My, my. That's a great truck. I have a '77 that is very similarly equipped, but not in anywhere near as nice a shape as yours.

Silver Green Poly (metallic) with a green interior! The green floor mats and green shift boot are a hoot.

There is a copy of the 1974 factory manual online here: http://oljeep.com/edge_74_tsm.html The factory manual is your best source for maintenance and repair info. Most service parts are available through your local parts store.

Dude, I would keep it 100% original. Kill anything on it not original. That is one sweet ride. I would even consider a frame off resto.... but that is just me.

Frame off resto? He's repainting the wheels and bumpers, it's practically DONE! I guess he could repaint the valve cover, and clean up the underside. That is one beautiful piece of machinery!!! -Adam

That's a pretty stunning rig! I wouldn't even refinish the bumpers or wheels, show it as a "survivor".. (That's just me though..)
