also.found our old scanner for the 60 series from our fleet days. found out why it pulls nicely for a little 11L. it has the "357 magnum" which adds 100 lbs torque. its 1350. the 425 hp 12l engines were 1450 in that era.

still aint painted. mechanically sound tho.

i had a lotta fun with this pic. was delivering to costco they asked me to move a Swift trailer. had to get a pic. i'm full independent,my truck,my trailer,my operating authority. everything wrong with this industry can be traced back to Swift and it's ilk so i had to text this one around saying i leased on,lol!

you can see i tagged a deer on the drivers side if you look close. no real damage, just bent some sheet aluminum and busted the headlite pod up a bit.

with my trailer.

got a full inspection over the pit at the scalehouse up in superior Wi last spring, passed and got my atta boy sticker. Trooper loved the truck too, lol.

Untitled by m r, on Flickr

put offset wheels on with the new steer tires too, looks much better, the axles are narrow on these. gonna put the same rims on the other one too.

my dad drove Trailways busses, etc for 40 years or so

commercial driving is a big responsibility as you know.

last fall halfway across wisconsin i noticed oil pressure dropping. oil level increasing. "making oil",meaning fuel is leaking into the crankcase. limped it home after a drain and refill on the oil. an injector solenoid on #4 had cracked and was spraying oil out into the valvetrain area.

Untitled by m r, on Flickr

a new injector, and all new orings on the rest, alonf with the cam seal and it was all better. new cam bearings too. i think that cam weighs about the same as a 360 crank.

amazingly easy motor to work on. and cheap and reliable and easy on fuel. the best motor out there overall. its the SBC of diesels.

Untitled by m r, on Flickr

these are valve / injector cam followers. these are in unbelieveably good condition for the hours on this motor. 850K miles / 38K hours. detroit has a chart of how tore up and scored the cam and rollers can be and still be acceptable. mine look like new. and they are still the ones Detroit put in on the assembly line.

Untitled by m r, on Flickr

the other truck has reman rockers, that are already showing considerable wear, and it has similar mileage on it.

i use good oil,and great (but expensive) filters. WIX Extreme Efficiency filters, which are a 5 micron filter, compares to around 20-30 microns for a "fleet" (cheap)filter. 15K intervals.

the proof is obvious, i have over 400K on this truck since i bought it and have been running these filters.

These posts are awesome. I wish I could get 850K out of one of my motors.

Don't paint it. It looks wicked as is.

i put windshields in. ran tint across the top prior to install, since the sun visors are about half the width of the glass.

Merit was a sub company of Walmart Feds made Walmart give them up and Swift bought them out. SIL was driving for Merit at the time and I was doing fix it electrical work at their terminal in Los Lunas NM when Swift bought them out, talk about night and day trying to get paid, with Merit once they knew me as soon as I sent an invoice it was paid. I did one job for Swift pretty involved one took myself and another guy a day to do it. Two months later I was still trying to get paid I finally told the lady that Phoenix wasn't that far and if there wasn't a check in my mailbox in three days I would be down there sleeping on the floor in her office check was here in two days
