Im thinking i'm going to set some tax return cash aside for the J-20. Gonna tear the 401 down and see what it will take to make it into a good runner...

Ive set a goal to have this rig running over the summer. I plan to tear the 401 down and see what it will take to get it running. Otherwise i have numerous 360's that wouldnt take much work to make into good runners. I have two fresher built blocks, one .040 over and one .060 over that i can build. I really want to run the 401, but if it needs more than i want to spend for now, ill do a 360. Whichever bottom end i use will receive lower cc '72 heads, summit 8601 cam with matching springs, double roller chain, and crane 1.6 roller tip rockers. I'll keep updates with what i find in my 401.

Looking to actually get this truck running in the next few months. After selling my '81 wagoneer, i just need a FSJ to be able to drive and more importantly, i need a truck! The waggy worked good as a truck to an extent, but its 6cyl wasnt capable of what i want to use the J-20 for. So, right now i have a low mileage running 360 from a mid 80s grand waggy. It will recieve an edelbrock performer cam and timing chain along with an offenhauser 4bbl intake and carter 625 cfm carb. Cant wait to get it running.

Thanks.

I really wanted to use the 401 but when i tore it down i found a pretty deeply scored cylinder. Cant fund a full 401 rebuild at the moment so a 360 will do.I doubt it will have any trouble pulling things around.

Hope you heal up fast, don't know how I missed this post before, but it looks nearly like the 78 my Dad bought new, nothing left of that one though.

Good thing you can turn wrenches while you're injured. What is it you do for a living again? Get well soon!

Not all that easy yet Brett...

So far, ive got the timing cover and both heads off and went through one of the heads. Lapped the valves and installed new springs and shims to get the seat pressure ready for the towing cam. Should get the other head done tomorrow and hopefully bolt them on and swap in the new cam/lifters/and timing chain in.

Heads and timing cover ready to go back onto the block. Need to order a flywheel for the 360. I plan to run high flow manifolds from the 360 out of my 72 javelin. Still have the downpipes so that should help with the dual exhaust cost once its together and running.

Well, havent gotten much done in the last month. I got married and then went on a honeymoon in Florida! That was a blast..

Some progress on the engine. Getting closer to pulling the beast into the garage.

Never mentioned that i picked up a set front seats, center armrest, and door panel assemblies out of a grand wagoneer for the J-20 a few months back. I basically have most everything to put the truck together....its just that getting it out of the shed and into the garage part to work on it part that i cant figure out....

Rounded up all the parts to put the drivetrain in except for a pilot bearing. Ill have napa get that coming for me tomorrow.

Today i pulled the rig out of my shed and got it into the garage to start working on it. Had a lot of moving around to do in the garage before that could happen though.....

The bed is at a different height since it has a 1" body lift installed and i need to either complete that on the cab and front clip or just take it out from the bed. Previous owner did it.

Thought this was neat being that it is from washington!

Nice truck, love the tires and whole look. I'd drive it just as it is! You know, but with a motor installed...
