    Project: Alice

Hello all, I have been following several of the threads on this forum and I think it is time to start my own to show off my ambitions.

    The Truck - "Alice"

    1964 J-200 Townside
Tornado 230 Straight 6, The first american made overhead CAM motor.

T90 Trans, I believe a Dana 20 Transfer, Dana 44's front and back with 4:10s

This truck was fun for a few summers, I got it running and tinkered with it, When it ran, it purred like a kitten, when it did not run, it purred like a dead kitten that took a lot of money to bring back to life.

I decided it was time to upgrade, I spend a few months searching craigslist everyday looking for something with a 5 speed, and enough power to tow around my CJ-7 when the time comes...

Thats when I came acrossed a 1992.5 Dodge Power Ram with an intercooled Cummins....

my father has a 96 3500 with a cummins and we love it so I decided I needed one as well.

It is the perfect truck for the swap because the motor has 135,000 and the body and frame will make it another 10 miles if I am lucky.

I plan to do a full drivetrain swap starting on Monday. I will have lots of pictures as I work.

    Enjoy the holidays.

Guess it did work, that photo is Alice from her good side... The only good side.

I made a bumper quick so I had something to go camping with.

This is the motor to be... If you look close you will notice a few "odd" things. first up is the hydraulic pump and valve for a plow... If you know anyone looking for a solid 7'6" Fisher plow take a look on the rochester craigslist...

Next on the "odd" list is the "up" pipe off of the turbo going through the hood. This truck was on its way to being a sled puller until the previous owner needed some quick cash so a stack out of the hood was the best way to pump all of that black smoke from the exhaust. The pump has been turned way up so as you drive down the road it looks like an old steam train....

So what are you going to do with the old 230 (which actually isn't the first American made OHC)? Is it any good? 2bbl by any chance?

            Nice looking truck btw.

Were there guages (pyro/egt) on the donor vehicle? You can get in real trouble and cause some damage without monitoring EGT and cranking the fuel to max. Seen several metled and deformed pistons from jus that. Saying the guy was into sled pulling made me tense up a bit. May want to go through things on the motor and give it a good visual to avoid problems down the road.

I know one of the owners was going to sled pull with it but he never got to do it... I will be going through the entire engine repainting/upgrading as I go just for that reason, that and the guy was fond of zip ties and mechanics wire....

I am torn, I would love to keep it because it is a nice looking/operating motor, however it would be more like "furniture" for the shop because I doubt I will ever use it. Would you be interested? I thought it was the first overhead CAM motor mass produced in a vehicle... I could be wrong...

Well I did not get as many hours in as I would have liked, we got just enough snow around here to require some plowing and salting so I had to go on a few runs and errands for the owner of the shop to keep the snow removal going smoothly. I did however get the engine out! and the rear axle off! hopefully better luck tomorrow... heres a few pics of todays progress:

The Cummins is out! what a project that was, the bolts on the Dodge were worse than the ones on the Jeep, right now it is hanging from the lift in the shop, the same place I left my camera hopefully I will have some new photos up in a day or so, I hope to have the axles under the Jeep in the net few days, at least mocked up and tacked in... Have a good new years!

ok, back on task I have the front axle off and the dash is ready to be removed as soon as I get a helping hand to take the windshield out. someone let the wipers get too low at one point, but kept using them anyway....for a few years.... so I have a nice arched groove in my line of sight, a brick came to mind to get the glass out

I have been looking at different gauges and setups that people have in other forums because I will have to replace the stock cluster. I do love the look of the speedometer, however I would like a tach. and a few others. The only issue I have is the lack of room in that tiny little dash..

                              SHE FLOATS!!

Too bad this tank wont fit on here....

I have a list of things to buy, design, and modify for this project, one of these days when I have some more time I will get all of it on here so you can get an idea of where I am headed
