1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Hello! I own a 1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer that has a 5/91 build date. I contacted Chrysler Archives and they said that the actual build date is 5/28/91. As you all know, 1991 is the last year of the Wagoneer and only 1560 were produced.

Unfortunately I am trying to find out what number out of 1560 my Wagoneer is and Chrysler said that they don't have that information. How is that possible? Would anyone know where I can find this out if I provided the VIN Number? It is to my understanding that May is the final month of production and this may be worth a lot of money. I am looking to restore this and sell. If anyone can help, please let me know.

Thank You!

Phil

Just guessing here but isn't it the last 4 digits of your VIN?

I don't know if they were differentiated by year though;
Here's Levi's breakdown:

Welcome to the madness from another proud owner of a Final Edition.

I don't know how to decifer the vin number either, but I'm sure someone on the board here can help.

Oh by the way,

The last 6 numbers of your VIN are the sequential build number for each year. Is your VIN between 0 and 1560? Sometimes the factories don't always start with 0 for each production run.

Either way I don't see how it would be worth more "money".

There are some late model 1991 GWs that were titled and sold as 1992's...now those are worth the real bucks

Like 89GW360NP229Dana44 said, with a little math you could get real close. You need to know what number the first or last Wag was. I'm thinkin the last one is in a collection some where and you could count backwards if you knew that last Wag's vin.......?

Welcome!

There was a member here that had a data base going at one time of '91 VIN numbers (sorry, I can't remember who it was, as I haven't heard from them in a while). I've always heard the same 1560 as the total for '91 production, but THE last Grand Wagoneer built (the one that was sent directly to Harrah's Auto Museum in Reno right after it rolled of the line) was built 6/21/91 and the last four digits in it's VIN was something like 4256. This information came out when the Jeep was sold on ebay a few years ago.

My '91 was built 6/14/91 and it's last four digits are 4035.

When we had the data base going, our small sampling of VIN's was already starting to show some good size gaps in the sequential part of the number. The bottom line is, we couldn't make much sense out of the VIN numbers in relation to the widely accepted 1560 unit production total.

And there is no evidence of any being built after 6/21/91, so there are not any out there that are actually considered '92's. This is an FSJ urban myth, just like the one that says Jeep built 300 1992 Grand Wagoneers for a Saudi Shiek after the normal run was completed (ask around, you'll find some guy who's uncle's best friend new a guy that worked for Jeep and swears this is true!).

At any rate, your 5/28 build date puts it in the final four weeks of production. How many were actually built after yours? Who knows...Subtract the last four numbers of your VIN from the 4256 and I think you'll be close.

A clean, late Final Edition is valuable, but I don't think your build date adds that much provenance. Sorry!

Oh yeah, we do need photos!

Nevemind Frank answered while I was searching and typing. The last 4 from the '91 I parted are 1180

I've got a late 91 as well... May '91 build date. I was ecstatic when I bought (for $500 due to a few rusty places on the quarter panels and a slight engine knock) and totally bummed when I discovered terminal frame cancer. Every piece I removed or cut off from it to aid in the build up of my resto Jeep I'm working on was like I was cutting my own self, and I predict it will be just like a funeral when I have to send it to the scrap later this year but it's served its purpose for me.

I can only hope and pray that more late 91's than not are safe and well taken care of!

I couldn't find the database that you're referring to with the Search function. Anyone know where the posting is?

I'd be interested to know who has a 1991 GW and how they got it. I'm sure there are some good stories. So if you got one of these rare gems, pipe up and let's hear from ya!

If you're looking to sell it, you might like to visit: www.grandwagoneer.com

Actually, even if you don't want to sell, the site is well worth a look.

I still say 1992 titled GW's are an Urban FSJ Myth. Heard about them many times, but have yet to actually see one or see any official documentation backing it up. That doesn't mean they don't exist, but until I actually see one, I claim them to be folklore...
