90s wag tailgate on an older chief

    will this interchange?
the wag is a 90 or 91 and mine is a 76 chief.
I think the latches are different but can I get it to work?

Yes it will work, but you have to re drill the 90 tailgate for the early latches. I have a thread on how I did it but photo bucket killed the pics. I will see if I can find it.

Don't know how to link a thread, but if you use this( Tailgate latch, going from late to early style. How to.) in the search it should come up. Also I'am not the first to do this so you might be able to find others too. good luck.

Yes, I did this swap about twenty years ago,it went smoothly.

As I recall I made a drill jig that used the two holes which are used to secure the glass channel as locators. These holes are common to both tailgates. I simply attached the jig to those holes for locating and drilled the new holes. It is symmetrically opposite so I used the same jig on both sides. I then made a simple counter sink forming tool that I used to create the depression around the new hole for the flat head screws.
