Yes it will work, but you have to re drill the 90 tailgate for the early latches. I have a thread on how I did it but photo bucket killed the pics. I will see if I can find it.1978 Wagoneer

Yes, I did this swap about twenty years ago,it went smoothly.
As I recall I made a drill jig that used the two holes which are used to secure the glass channel as locators. These holes are common to both tailgates. I simply attached the jig to those holes for locating and drilled the new holes. It is symmetrically opposite so I used the same jig on both sides. I then made a simple counter sink forming tool that I used to create the depression around the new hole for the flat head screws.FSJ Hybrid build thread: http://www.shopfloortalk.com/forums/...ad.php?t=43332
