    Soft top on a FSJ

I have always wanted a soft rear on a Full size "SUV" I have the opportunity to pick up a 79 W/T Cherokee for cheap and was wondering if anybody else has chopped the rear and put on a softtop like you can get for ramcharger/trailduster's? Would building a full roll cage work for the bow structure or would you have to build that seperate. Also this is a summer only rig, so It would have to be super tight, it would be off/ sides rolled up more often than not.

I've done it, wasn't pretty though. Will the hard-top top need to be removable or are you going to ditch it entirely? Either way there will be a gap in between the metal of the outer body metal and the inside body metal as well as where the rear pillars mount.

You could get a roll cage and stretch the top real tight over it. I cut my roof right at the first crease rearward of the windshield and using a TJ bikini top would have had coverage over the doors too had the body not been so thrashed and tweaked. My roll cage was also a bit too short to have the 'top' nice and level. Pretty, no, functional, yes.

Do a Google search for David Allen Racing, he's got a sweet soft-top setup. IIRC it was custom made.
You know it's bad when your car's on the EPA's 10 most wanted list!

I found allens soft top, and it looks good, I would have wanted it less fast back and more like the original wagon rear, but I suppose it had to follow his cage. I wonder how much that set him back.

No need to search, it right here http://www.davidallenracing.com/
Look under Dave's toys at the bottom

The top was all custom made by a local upholstery shop that does a lot of work on hot rods and such. The material is the same that is used on stock Jeep soft tops. It ran me just over $700 to have made. It uses the roll cage as supports.

How far above the top of the door, and the top of the windshield did you cut the top?
