1977 Waggy, Rusty Fuel Tank and lines

I really hope this isn't a dumb question. I have ordered a new fuel tank, sending unit and level unit because they looked like a coral reef made out of rust.

Do I need to replace the steel fuel lines? can they rust on the inside?

Can I just run high pressure fuel line all the way back and get rid of the metal fuel lines?

Thank You and please be gentle.

Hard to tell from here if your lines need replacing. But yes they can rust inside as can brake lines. I would install a disposable inline filter just before the fuel pump. If you have rust coming loose and traveling it'll destroy the fuel pump. Steel or fuel grade hose works but steel is safer for long runs. Fuel grade hose is expensive too. If'n were me I'd start with just the inline filter and see how it goes. I mark the date installed on them and replace them yearly.

Thanks, if they can rust then I will take them off and replace them while I wait for my tank to show up. I will replace the fuel pump and rebuild the carb also. The Jeep had been sitting for 7 years when I got it and I cannot do WOT without choking out.

The Jeep is not a daily driver so I can take my time.

      Thanks again.
