    questions with swapping wiring harness

what if any are the problems with putting a '78 wiring harness in a '79? the '78 is an unmolested harness, dash & fuse box(still has factory 8 track) the plan would be to use the dash/gauge cluster, fuse block & comlete harness from '78. the '79 dash harness is rough and engine harness was comletely patched in at firewall. it might be a little work but should get rid of the gremlins

I would think it would be fairly straightforward. I put a wiring harness out of a mid-80s Malibu into a 46 International truck once. The matching Jeeps should be a breeze.

AFIK it should be a direct swap.

        It's a direct swap, but isn't '78 glass fuses?
That would be a step backwards in my opinion....

I went the other way, replaced a '73 harness with a '79 harness.
Only difference was the wiring @ the steering column, everything else was the same.

I believe all the FSJ's that have the new style harness also have the new style wiper motors. The connectors are different.

pulled the tarp off of the '78 to check the fuses, they are glass, looks like the gauge cluster will be an easy swap though, might just pull the dash on the '79 and clean up the spaghetti fest behind it
