Need a leader: Central AZ... Saturday, January 22

My brother will be down for Barrett-Jackson, and I would like to hit the trails with him that Saturday from (as early as you want) morning until mid-afternoon. However, I need someone who can suggest the trail and lead. And the bigger the group the better.

Would prefer to take the J-truck (which is experiencing some charging issues at the moment), but may take the Waggy if we can keep pinstriping to a minimum.

Long term: I am up for getting out at least once/month. If you hit the trails often, PM me for my phone/e-mail so I can tag along.

I'll probably be in NM that weekend if things go as planned.
You should post this in the Southwest section as well.
Lots of folks up that way.
You get enough response, I could change plans.
I like wheeling with the central AZ folks, good people, all of them.

Are you folks prepared to camp?
I ask that as these runs are usually full day trips, and camping is cool.

Anything easy to moderate within a one hour drive of Scottsdale. I have only been out on the Ft McDowell Reservation, so everything else will be new to me.

My brother has to be back to the auction late afternoon, and flys out Sunday morning, so no overnight camping.

When you say 'has to be back to the auction' what do you mean?

'Stuff happens' so if he has to be there for some type of obligation (like selling or something) then you need to be cautious and have a backup plan.

You should also make sure to take stuff for overnight camping in case you get stuck down there.

I am struggling a little with where to tell you where to go.

25 years ago I could have told you to drive up scottsdale road toward carefree or down shea to Fountain hills.

You could head up the beeline and play out by the 4 peaks area.
You could head up 17 toward crown king.

Both of these are going to take a bit of trave time.

Table Mesa Rd. is the best bet. The west side of the 17 has some play areas, the east side has the trail which can be taken 4-5 hours. Either way, you'll need a few hours to do any side.

BTW, which area of Scottsdale are you in? I was closing an O'reilly store on Mcdonald and 86th this whole week.

                    LOL bring your lawyer..

Looks like it could be a fun group of folks. I will be interested to hear how it goes.

Keep in mind that large groups take a lot longer on the trails. (If you are short on time)

Fantastic day on the trail, Saturday!

Video is of the first long, steep ascent of the day. Doesn't do the actual experience justice. Got to the top and all we saw was sky , that's why you hear us asking for direction...

The group was fantastic. And the organizers who led and followed took the task of "keeping track of everyone" very seriously, without taking themselves too seriously. They definitely have a sense of humor.

I plan to go out with them every month from here on out...

Can I participate if I am coming from a different location, check my blog? Where can I read all the details of the story? I want to investigate it. It sounds interesting. But I want to follow everything from the very beginning. Is there anybody here who could roughly explain everything about these events? I believe the thread does not tell us a lot of important things. Am I right, what do you think?
