What is This Part?

It is below the power steering pulley but does not have a belt connected. It looks like an alternater. This is on the '91. My '85 has the room for an extra belt on the power steering pulley but nothing underneath.

Previous owner probably disconnected it. It may be locked up or some other component of the A.I.R. system had failed.

It is emissions equipment.

Thanks again. At least I don't have to worry about the emissions stuff yet.

Yeah, most people remove them if they don't have to test them.

I bought a new pump for my 91 from Autozone. It was about $50 and I had to tell them what the bolt size was holding on the pulley on. There are two different sizes-both metric.

A.I.R. pump, or smog pump, pumps oxygen into the exhaust to the catalytic converter to help it do its thing. Most seize up and fry the belt. You can remove all of the brackets, the pump, the diverter valve and hoses, and the lines going to the manifolds but make sure to plug the holes with somthing (one of my manifolds has bolts in it and the other I had my buddy weld up).
