I used a tilt column from a 73 Monte Carlo with floor shift in my 75 J-10 with 4 spd. There was only 1/2" difference in length and the harnesses plugged right in. The Monte used an elaborate linkage system to activate the key release and the NSS switch that chevy mounted on the column instead of in the floor shifter so I just removed it and pegged the lower column with a pop rivet. Even used my lock cylinder from my Jeep column so I didn't have to rekey.
